Refund etiquette

Having to refund an unhappy buyer (previous thread)and wondering what the etiquette is with reagrds to refunds.

Buyer wants me to refund price and postage (ok) and then postage to return by recorded delivery (not sure about this as it's their choice to return item and i'd be happy with first or 2nd class)
Once we agree to refund terms they want me to refund THEN they will post item

Any advice?

It depends on the reason for return. If its just because they no longer want it then they pay for the postage to return it.

It there is a problem with the item then you should refund all of it.

I wouldn't refund anything until you have the item back and can check it over.

yup as mummyto1 says.

they return the item to you. you check it, then you issue a full refund. If you were at fault then it's best to then refund their return postage. If you are not at fault then you don't.

definitely no refund at all until you receive the item back

I have just lost out to a paypal dispute ( I was selling ).

paypal have told the buyer to return the item at their expense.

I have to refund original postage costs and purchase costs.

not at all happy as she says it was not as described, I have photos to prove she is a lying sow but Paypal not interested.

Do not refund anything until you get the item back. And how they send it is up to them.

If my seller doesnt use Recorded I may not receive the item and then I can't refund it. . Whatever she choses is at her expense.

Yes PP will say the buyer returns at their expense, of course it is polite to refund the postage too, but not essential. Also they SHOULD send it recorded to cover thmeselves.........
