Had threats of violence from another ebay member who hasn't even bought from us!

I have reported it to eBay but do I report it to Police or would they not take it seriously?

Unbelievably this lowlife emailed us last night (DH is a car trader and sells cars via ebay as a registered trader) and was abrupt from the outset and offered us a silly price for one of our vehicles. We replied back saying no and don't waste our time, he then gave us a mouthful to which we replied we were reporting him to ebay (we were professional throughout) and I will cut and paste on his 7 replies!

Lowlife's email:
For what!
I knew it another one of those little shits who scream like a
baby when you tell them how it is!
I meet your sort all the time.
All the
mouth then when you tell them how it is shit runs down the legs.
Do I
really seem like the type who would worry about any kind of authority, not
at all mate.
Run to who you like and tell them what you like.
People like
you cause problems not only for yourself but for people close to you, you
get warned and still can't keep it shut, then other people suffer because
of it.
You're just a low life mate.
I bet your y fronts have filled up
with shit!
This was one of the milder ones. I am absolutely that someone can be so low.

Hss anyone ever been treated this way on ebay. I am really losing faith with ebay at the moment, especially when you can't give buyers negative feedback.

Obviously he's horrible.

I do think you should not have said 'don't waste our time' to him - not exactly polite either is it?

fannybanjo · 13/11/2009 16:09

The time waste bit was said in the lines of - make us a sensible offer or don't bother, in polite terms. This was after him telling us that he could have bought the same vehicle for £2000 less at auction last week - why did he not buy it then?

Good lord.

Tidey · 13/11/2009 16:09

Sounds thoroughly unpleasant, but I have to agree with Laurie that if your reply to his offer was really 'No, don't waste our time', you can't be surprised if he was offended. Not that that's any excuse for the email you've C&P'd, he is completely out of order. I would wait and see if eBay take action.

radstar · 13/11/2009 16:09

im shocked too! dont have much advice though. i thought is bad enough when dp got told he "ruined" some girls christmas one year. the mother was basically trying it on to see what should could get, there was nothing wrong with what he sent.

is there any way they can find out where you are? if there is i would def contact police

Tidey · 13/11/2009 16:11

Sorry, X-post on the politeness thing

fannybanjo · 13/11/2009 16:11

No truly, my reply was very very courteous! The time waste was in respect of four emails in 10 minutes from him telling us how to run our business!

Contact the police, this sounds very much like harassment to me.

Poor you!!

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 13/11/2009 16:14

how did you politely say "make us a sensible offer or don't bother"?

Just ignore his emails, he hasn't got your address, he's a nobody. I had some woman last year (who did have my address) refuse to do a refund, got my money back from paypal and she threatened to come round and do me in - she called me a 'cunt' too and various other threats.

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 13/11/2009 16:15

and block him on your email - its easy to do with ebay and it will drive him nuts.

fannybanjo · 13/11/2009 16:17

Yes, our address is shown on our website and on our ebay traders page so he would know exactly where we are! Great isn't it. I am as in 20 years of DH trading he has never had this type of behaviour. We are really polite and courteous to everyone and treat people how we expect to be treated, we truly didn't antagonise him whatsoever.

I have to admit to not sleeping very well last night as this was at 11pm and I was so angry. Some of the other emails are worse. Because we didn't reply back to him he got more and more abusive.

Should I print them out and take them to my local Police Station?

Oh, I see. If you were just a screen name on eBay, I'd stick with my first thought - let them ban him. But yes, if your name and address are accessible, I would be more worried. Have you had any communication from eBay yet?

fannybanjo · 13/11/2009 16:25

Popping out so will reply later laurie

Good lord what a cretin he must be. I can completely understand your fear about him knowing your address, but I suspect he is mouth and no trousers.
Definitely block him on Ebay. Ebay will probably cancel his account.

sixlostmonkeys · 13/11/2009 18:28

i think in circumstances such as these you can report it to their service provider - not up on all this but maybe a google of "reporting to a service provider" may come up with something?

fannybanjo · 13/11/2009 19:42

laurie, without going into every single word said between us, he emailed roughly four times telling us our car was too dear, he could get one cheaper in auction etc. After asking him politely to either make a reasonable offer or contact us by phone, he came back with how he knows the game, who do we think we are etc. We then told him to stop wasting our time. I think we were bloody decent considering how rude he is but with hindsight, we should have just ignored him but there is that once chance that someone could be a bit of a messer but really want your car so you do have to communicate with everyone. That's business. We replied to him that we know what our vehicles are worth, we have been in the trade long enough and good night but EXTREMELY politely. That is when the torrent of abuse began. When I said in my OP that I told him to stop time wasting, it was summarising what was said. I should have been clearer but I was typing it quickly!

Haven't heard back from ebay yet and there is the chance he may get banned and be annoyed BUT there is no way ebay should let people like this be members and if he wants to retaliate because of something so pathetic then I have all the evidence I need.

There are some sick people out there. I hope Chillo that you are right because it is easy to spout crap at people behind a computer. Funnily enough, if he met my DH in real life, he wouldn't stand a chance.
