Postage costs. Charged more than double what it cost to send, would you say anything ?

I don't normally but i personally think this is a bit unfair.

I know i agreed postage when i bid on it and all that but more than double seems a little excessive ?
Item cost £2.37 to send , i paid £5 and it is in a recycled jiffy bag!

Worth mentioning to seller or just feedback in stars r/e postage ?

Tricky one, the cost of postage is only one part of the cost to send. You don't know what other costs were involved - eg What about the cost of the petrol to drive to the post office, the cost of the hassle to get the kids out the house and into the car and to the post office, getting soaked in the rain etc etc.

If you knew the cost in advance, I would just take it on the chin.

You agreed to it in advance so you can't really complain.

IMO, the cost for p&p also includes petrol to PO, packaging, hassel factor of getting to PO etc not just the actual cost of postage

I wouldn't. I have to go to my post office to post ebay items, this entails a 30 minute wait in the queue with dcs in tow. It also means being served by a very disgruntled counter assistant. I package my items in tissue and always put £1.50 on top.

Fair enough petrol i guess but 'hassle factor'. If you are selling you are providing a customer service surely you can't charge extra for any hassle you have going to the post office. I wouldn't dream of charging extra for taking kids etc as i always have to take them with me so just everday occurence tbh!

The thing is, the OP doesn't know how much the postage charges will be before she receives the item - she is trusting the seller to be fair.

I think the OP has every right to say something and I would mention it in the feedback: "item nice (if it was!) but was overcharged on postage" would do the trick.

I don't think you can justify charging for the hassle - what hassle?!! You might as well charge for getting out of bed and switching your computer on!! If getting to the post office is really too difficult for some people, why sell on ebay.

I generally charge what is costs to post rounded up to the nearest pound.

Its obviously a lot more then the actual cost, but you knew the cost when bidding so thats your choice.

I dont really think its fair to mark down.

If people complain too much its just another marker for ebay to revert to free P&p pn all items wether your a business seller or an ordinary mum (in my case). So I think we need to be careful what we wish for ...

Otherwise it will be far too much hassle for most ordinary folk who are just wanting to sell on a few things for fun or a few pennies.

Carrotfly but how would you know how much the actual cost would be until it arrived ?
I have just looked at other items and those with similair postage (less) are sending special delivery!!

I think there has to be a line though at what is just bumping up your sale price by over inflating your postage cost. To be fair when you weigh it you know how much it is going to cost to send , the buyer has no idea. Surely if you don't mark them down on the stars they will keep overcharging ?

By bidding on the item you accepted the p+p. Don't feel you can comlain really.
Afterall, if the seller had charged the exact p+p but started the bidding off higher it wouldn't have made any difference to you, you would have still received the same item in the same packaging for the same price.
