Ebay or an NCT sale?

Hi, looking for advice from experienced floggers

As well as clothes, nappies etc I have a couple of quite large items (moses basket, chair) to get rid of, and am wondering if it is worth the hassle of arranging delivery... or storing until the next NCT sale in my area... or putting it for collection only...

Has anyone done an NCT nearly new sale? How did it compare to ebay in terms of the amount you made and the amount of hassle?

IME it's easier to sell the big items in the NCT sale and leave the fancy stuff for e-bay.

I got rid of a lot of big items on our last nct sale, sold them fairly cheap, but so much less hassle than e-bay. E-bay seems a better bet if you are selling well known brands or character toys / clothes.

Thanks Meglet, that's what I was leaning towards... Have already put a couple of posh bits on ebay to test the waters, auctions running for a few more days now and haven't had much action yet but we will see!

For large items I have had a lot of success with the local paper £50 and under column, local Tescos noticeboard, Netmums local buy/sell board , AdTrader website, FreeAds website and Gumtree. Apart from the local paper, you can supply pics for all of these but it doesn't cost anything to advertise, or sell. Then if you don't get any takers you can take them to an NCT sale.

For smaller items I have sold a lot at NCT sales. I have done 4 to date, and they are great for books and toys and equipment that would be cost a lot to post compared to their value. They are also good for good-condition high street clothes - I would sell the better stuff on Mumsnet or eBay.

I also sell via NCT...Just bear in mind they take 30% commission. I'm happy with that as you can shift a lot of things pretty easily but know that it has come as an unpleasant shock to some.

Yes - you have to weigh up what 30% commission means compared to eBay postage compared to the hassle of advertising separately and decide how to sell each large item individually. That is why I have tried to sell large bulky items by other means locally. I have only taken a handful of items to NCT sales that I have priced at more than £6, and most of these were things I had already failed to sell elsewhere.
