I can't understand the Amazon sellers fees, can anyone explain?

I've got quite a few books to sell, and thought I'd try Amazon rather than ebay. I can't understand the sellers fees though at all.
As far as I can make out you pay
£0.86 completion fee
plus 17.25% of the sales price

But then there's 49p variable closing fees and Postage Credits mentioned as well, and I don't understand that bit at all.

So, If I sold a book for £10.00, I would pay 86p for actually selling it plus £1.73. Is that right?

Yoy get a postal credit of £2.75 (?) but most of that will be eaten up with Seller fees

Amazon can be tricky like that.

They charge the buyer £2.75 for postage credit, and take your fees out of that, leaving you with an amount that may or may not actually cover the postage cost (depends on book thickness & weight). You also have to cover the cost of packaging up the book out of that money. Sometimes it covers the postage cost and leaves you with a bit leftover (which you keep), sometimes the book costs more to post than you're left with, and you have to pay for it out of what you've made on the book.

Don't know if that clarifies it any. I find with selling on Amazon, I weigh the book and measure it to see if it is thin enough to count as large letter rather than a packet. Ideally, you are selling books that are worth a lot and light/thin to post!

This is why you see lots of books going for 1p--the seller is getting to keep the leftover from the postage credit (not that it usually works out too much, 11 pence was typical for me).

11p per book - that's terrible! Glad to hear that you can see the costs before finalising things. Will give it a go and see what happens.

Wiggle, that's only if you sell the book for £0.01! I had lots I wanted to get rid of, and time on my hands to to do it, so every penny helped!

I like the idea that books get a second life and that people can find the book they want.

Unless the book is ridiculously thick or heavy, you will normally have your postage costs completely covered after Amazon takes its fees.
