Do you have to pay tax on money you make from Ebay?

I'm new to Ebay and other online selling sites, and wondered if sellers have to pay tax on the money they make? I mean as in ordinary sellers, who have a couple of things to sell every once in a while, rather than people who set up proper online stores on Ebay, etc...

I think that you only pay tax if you are selling new things ie like a business.
If you are just selling your own posessions that you no longer want, then you dont pay tax.

If you

  • they buy goods to then sell online
  • make items themselves to sell for a profit
  • sell goods for others, on commission
  • sell a service and get paid for it then you need to register as a business and pay tax.

If you are only selling things once in a while then you are ok.

if you make a profit then you need to declare it and may have to pay tax
