So I was charged £15 for P&P for items that cost £2.14 to send

I bought several items off a seller thinking she would reduce her postage charge (she agreed to this in an email beforehand but we did not agree the exact amount).

She then charged me £15 for postage which was cheaper than the individual posting would have costed, but was still excessive! I emailled her several times but she would not budge.

Should I:

  • complain to Ebay
  • leave negative feedback
  • leave neutral feedback
  • ignore it

She was v pretty tho. As are you, if the completely fictitious picture in my head is accurate, at all...

morningpaper · 11/04/2009 21:09

yes I look like her then

the annoying truth is that I really look like this

MP, I am not sure why you thought she would be reasonable about combining postage costs when she was already charging £4 to send a bag of feathers. That in itself was not reasonable.

Incidentally, you want feathers? Have you ever thought about visiting a bird sanctuary and picking some up from the ground? Or my cats could supply a few for you for the cost of a first class stamp.

FrannyandZooey · 11/04/2009 21:10

i'm not sure flight
i think it would have to be more extreme than that for fee circumvention
i mean with postage and (new posh) packaging they could cost a couple of quid to send
plus her time and eg parking fees (ok am stretching here LOL) but £4 is not wildly over the top is it?
we all know 6 loads of feathers is not going to cost 6 times as much to post - but she hasn't broken the rules IMO

the moral argument is just nonsense
i could bid on a fur coat and leave bad feedback cause i consider it immoral

you must sort out specifics about postage in advance mp
it's a bugger but you won't do it again i guess?

morningpaper · 11/04/2009 21:11

But I DID ask in advance Franny - I said would you combine postage for multiple items and she said yes

But I was bidding on SEVERAL FEATHERS so could not agree on the specifics until all the auctions had finished

And then she said £15 postage please and I said can you please explain WHY? and she said no, that is just the cost

It is FEATHERS

aitch neutral feedback is regarded as a 'soft' negative
if you got the goods within a reasonable period, and they were as described, and seller stuck to the contract in the auction - ie didn't insist you paid double what you bid, or similar, then you can only fairly leave positive feedback

morningpaper · 11/04/2009 21:12

I should add that this is the ONLY time I have left neutral feedback in over 600 transactions

OP posts:
morningpaper · 11/04/2009 21:13

It wasn't fancy packaging or packaged in advance

It was a brown A4 envelope containing A FEW FEATHERS

did I mention that it was FEATHERS I mean you can't get LIGHTER than feathers

I would have left negative f/b.
She said she would combine postage and charging £15 when it cost her £2 is outrageous and money grabbing.
I think I'd prob email ebay and let them know she is hiking up postage to cover fees, as well as copying her rude email to them.
Ebsy will sometimes act if a seller is out of order.

FrannyandZooey · 11/04/2009 21:14

you should have said something like "eg if i win 5 lots what will postage be?"
or "will postage be charged at cost or calculated in another way?"

you can't expect postage to be at cost unless auction states it will be or you have agreed it will be

have you ever ordered something from a catalogue and paid £4.95 for it to be delivered? even if a pair of pants etc? do you complain about that?

Ok then I say it was Wrong of them and you were Right to give the neg feedback and details.

The facility to leave feedback on excessive postage costs is there for this sort of thing. If they had been individually wrapped in gold leaf and a whole roll of parcel tape then £15 may have been justified. Not an A4 envelope.
tell ebay.

Pannacotta · 11/04/2009 21:16

Fair point Franny and MP should have been clearer perhaps, but the seller did say she'd combine postage costs.
£15 post for some feathers is plain wrong.
MP why not post the seller's user ID here so we all know never to buy feathers from her?!

morningpaper · 11/04/2009 21:16

I bid on LOADS of stuff

You don't always dot the T's before you bid, because most of the time you don't WIN, so it would be a waste of time. One generally assumes that sellers will Do The Decent Thing I.E. NOT CHARGE FIFTEEN QUIDDIES FOR POSTING FECKING FEATHERS

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 11/04/2009 21:16

(mp it is a ripoff. but she was advertising it clearly as rip off postage so you lose moral high ground imo)

FrannyandZooey · 11/04/2009 21:17

i asked for feathers on here mp and got them for free

Dumbledoresgirl · 11/04/2009 21:17

Use this site instead?

morningpaper · 11/04/2009 21:18

well damn it Franny I didn't know I could come here for FREE FEATHERS

I need feathers to make a bustle

For a burlesque party

I am hoping they will disguise the fact that I am a short, blind, middle-aged comedian

morningpaper · 11/04/2009 21:18

Don't wave CHEAP FEATHERS at me now, my friend

It is too late for your cheap feathers

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 11/04/2009 21:19

but the point is, you knew the individual postage costs (which were stupidly high)

you asked for a discount, which she gave.

you were at no time misled into thinking that it would be vastly cheaper, you just assumed it would.
sadly it's very much a case of buyer beware isn't it?

as I said before though, I would still complain to ebay about the ridiculous costs and fee circumvention

Dumbledoresgirl · 11/04/2009 21:19

Oh MP just eat some chocolate. That will fill out your bustle nicely.

ShinyPinkShoes · 11/04/2009 21:20

How much should the postage have been for each bag?

FlyMeToDunoon · 11/04/2009 21:21

she wears red feathers.... and a huley, huley skirt!
