So I was charged £15 for P&P for items that cost £2.14 to send

I bought several items off a seller thinking she would reduce her postage charge (she agreed to this in an email beforehand but we did not agree the exact amount).

She then charged me £15 for postage which was cheaper than the individual posting would have costed, but was still excessive! I emailled her several times but she would not budge.

Should I:

  • complain to Ebay
  • leave negative feedback
  • leave neutral feedback
  • ignore it

she is taking the mick, but i would never have parted with £15 in the first place.

FAQinglovely · 11/04/2009 13:21

hmmm I agree that she has charged a lot and you were right to give a neutral

BUT

unless the individual P&P charges were excessive then I'm not sure there's a lot ebay/paypal will do.

Sellers don't have to combine P&P for multiple purchases to the same person (well they didn't used to have to I guess they may have changed it). Obviously it's good practice to offer the discount for multiple purchases, but unless they've stated that they will then they don't have to and can charge the equivalent of posting the items to different people (if that makes sense?)

morningpaper · 11/04/2009 15:33

well the individual postage was £4 for each bag of feathers, which was excessive, so I emailed to say 'if I win several items will you combine postage?' and they said yes...

Then after I won 7 items, they said the combined postage would be £15! Which is a bit silly for SIX SMALL PACKS OF FEATHERS

But my objections fell on stony ground

I couldn't really agree postage in advance, because I didn't know how many auctions I would win...

Gave neutral feedback anyway and was very polite

oooh they've sent me an abusive email now

OP posts:
onepieceofcremeegg · 11/04/2009 20:49

What does it say? How bad is it?

thisisyesterday · 11/04/2009 20:50

oooh hard one. see the postage racket pisses me right off because they aren't supposed to do it. (circumventintion of fees I believe?)

but, if you knew the price, bid anyway and didn't agree to what the reduction would be then sadly there isn't much you can do.

I think i'd still be inclined to report to ebay anyway because excessive postage costs isn't on. £4 for feathers??????

thisisyesterday · 11/04/2009 20:52

obviously circumventintion is not a word lol
(i need to go to bed)

morningpaper · 11/04/2009 20:53

Oh just generally abuse about how my feedback was out of order

but really it WASN'T

You can't agree on fees BEFORE you bid, if you are bidding for loads of stuff. I just assumed they would be REASONABLE. Which they were not.

AitchTwoOh · 11/04/2009 20:54

i'd have left negative feedback, tbh. what does the email say?

morningpaper · 11/04/2009 20:54

I don't want to quote it word for word

just that I am BANG OUT OF ORDER

they sound a bit COMMON tbh

probably have noisy dogs

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 11/04/2009 20:56

yes, posh people say PLUMB out of order. or is it PLUM?

BananaFruitBunny · 11/04/2009 20:56

If they've sent you an abusive email report them to eBay.

flightattendant19 · 11/04/2009 20:57

No it's shit MP and you were right to do it

I had this about some nappies once, well wraps and nappies

the person reduced it to about £8 when it actually cost 2, got really shirty about it then I realised they were a freecycle mod too so had to avoid freecycle because I got too cross.

People can wreck your life this way, really they can

FrannyandZooey · 11/04/2009 20:58

mp i am sorry but i agree you were in the wrong to leave bad feedback
she did reduce her postage and she's within her rights to charge more than it actually costs her
i agree £15 for feathers is daft but that's why you should sort these things out before bidding
i can see it's annoying but she has done nowt wrong by ebay rules and you should not have left anything other than positive feedback imo

flightattendant19 · 11/04/2009 21:00

Yes she has tho franny, she has charged tip top postage knowing it'd make up any loss on the feathers

That's fee circumvention and punishable by death, dontcha know.

morningpaper · 11/04/2009 21:02

But Franny the items cost 99p each and were FIVE FEATHERS

And she charged £15 for postage - I just assumed that when she said "Yes I'll reduce for multiple purchases" that she would charge a few quid - NOT an extra £13 !

They were posted in an A4 envelope with no extra packaging, there was REALLY no reason for the extra £13

It is avoidance of final fees imo and Just Not Cricket

flightattendant19 · 11/04/2009 21:04

have they threatened to send round the pitbull yet?

onepieceofcremeegg · 11/04/2009 21:04

Franny as you say she has done nowt wrong by ebay rules but morally she has done a lot of wrong. (imo)

If she is a mner reading this then this is what we think of you

flightattendant19 · 11/04/2009 21:06

MP i am sorry I can not avoid asking you this, it's in my mind RIGHT NOW and i'll forget it if I don't. I have a picture of you in my head, not sure where from.

Are you or are you not that chick out of

Oh fuck it what were they called? Loveshack! B52's!!!

Well are you?

morningpaper · 11/04/2009 21:07

No I am not that bird

OP posts:
FlyMeToDunoon · 11/04/2009 21:07

Does the actual amount they paid in postage appear on the postage label?

AitchTwoOh · 11/04/2009 21:07

what's the point of neutral feedback then, surely you're allowed to leave it?

flightattendant19 · 11/04/2009 21:07

Oh thank fuck

FAQinglovely · 11/04/2009 21:07

MP didn't leave "bad" feedback - she left neutral.

morningpaper · 11/04/2009 21:08

Fly me YES which is what's especially annoting

A brown A4 envelope stating £2.14
