Feedback protocol after a succesful paypal claim? Also, do you return the item and how?

Hi, I posted a few weeks ago about a pair of dresses I bought that were not as described. The seller did not contact me despite my many, polite emails so I went to a paypal dispute then claim. The seller did not contact paypal either so I was succesful in my claim.

The money has not come back into my account yet but I expect that to be soon. My questions are these;

Do you return the item that you have won a claim on?

How do you get the address for the return? (I have asked for this repeatedly!)

Do you leave feedback after a claim like this? I feel bad about leaving a neg because I am a wuss but I suppose something like "Item not as described, no contact from seller had to claim via paypal"

Or is that too harsh?

Well without a return address I don't see how you can possibly return it.

Wrt the feedback, I think you've waited long enough for a response and you are giving truthful feedback. This seller surely can't be surprised to get negative feedback after the way they've behaved. In fact what you've posted I think sums up the situation spot on.

Although I am a bit of an Ebay novice so maybe I'm wrong.

I've only had a few disputes which have all been resolved.....I wouldn't leave any feedback at all tbh, after all, at the end of the day, with the dispute finding in your favour, you've got a freebie.

Is the seller active at the moment? If not she/he might be in hospital or something. Obviously you can't return it without an address but if you are contacted then you need to return it. Not sure how to go about claiming return postage though. I'm surprised Paypal refunded the money even though you still have the item. Although thinking about it nothing Paypal/Ebay do surprises me any more!

I would leave negative feedback. I mean, the point of feedback is so that prospective buyers know what they are getting into. Even if the dresses weren't inaccurately described, there is no excuse for not at least responding to so many emails.

Something similar happened to me with me when an item didn't arrive and I sent loads of emails and got no reply until I opened a paypal dispute...then the seller immediately refunded me within 30 mins (still no email or contact/reply though)

I left a negative feedback because my experience had been negative, as a seller myself I wouldn't dream of ignoring emails, and would fully expect to get negative feedback if I behaved like that.

Bucharest, it is not a freebie, it is not as described - ie not what I wanted, it is no good to me at all! If the seller can use it or sell it properly the I am happy for them to have it back! Also don't I have a kind of duty to let other ebayers know that there is a potential problem with this seller?

Elling, I couldn't return it as I had no information, I did ask for the information many times so as I could return it, I didn't want or even ask for anything toward the return postage costs as I feel there is an element of shared risk!

Yes the seller is active and the auction finished over a month ago now so there is little room for the usual "but they may have..." excuses.

Oh yes, good point ellingwoman - in my case I checked to see that the seller had been active first, and she had been leaving feedback and listing items.

Dilettante, how long do you think I should keep hold of the items incase she asks for them back?

If it was me, I would send an email via Ebay so that there is a record of it, saying "I want to return your items, if I don't hear from you within 2 weeks I will send them to the charity shop" then send another one after 1 week, then another on the day you get rid of them. That way the seller can't claim not to have known.

Thanks for your input everyone, I am such a wuss that I sometimes go too far the other way in an effort not to let people off the hook IYSWIM, it is nice to get some perspective!

Can you contact ebay for the sellers details so you can return them?

I'd leave a neg. The seller didn't give an accurate description and hasn't responded to emails. If the seller had responded and been helpful with issuing refund etc then I would be less harsh but after all this time and still no contact from them my patience would have run out!!

Tortoise, can you do that? I have a strange idea that you can only do it the other way around (ie seller to buyer) but now I think about it that could just be a figment of my warped imagination!

It is worth a try.
Email or try Ebays help line.
At least Ebay should have a record of you contacting them to try and return it if sellers kicks up fuss.

I will also leave the neg. I do think it is the right thing to do, although I hate to be like that to people, especially when it seems to be an active seller like this!

I recenty bought some items that were advertised as one size, but turned up as another size. Paypal found in my favour but wouldn't refund me until I'd provided tracking information to prove I had returned them. However, they were to be returned at my expense and by a trackable method.

therefore I didn't return them, left negative feeback (and really buggered up her feedback scores), left one star for everything (and buggered up those as well) and will re-sell her items, and describe them more accurately than she did.

Paypal were totally unhelpful - everyone agreed they were wrongly described and I was the one out of pocket.

So check with Paypal....they may not refund until they have been returned (and they will have her address).
