I want to start selling stuff on ebay but never have before - am I better off selling lots of little things to get my ratings up first?

That's it really - I have a bunch of stuff from kids things to a sofa that I want to get rid of. Should I sell the small things first before the sofa (it's a vintage 60s job so should be worth a few quid) or doesn't it matter really?

Thanks

And with something like that, presumably I can ask people to collect?!

Yes, can ask people to collect - or give them a price to have it delivered if you want - totally up to you. Possibly good to sell few items first to get your ratings up. DH and I sell loads of things on ebay - great way to make a few pennies!

Or you could buy some stuff (you need) - purchases also count towards your feedback rating.

I think a seller with zero rating might make me wonder, but if your sofa is only for a few quid, it probably won't trouble me. Vintage sofas are not hot scamming fodder!

You can ask people to collect but it will limit your market to those in the vicinity, and may thus result in a lower price. Offering to post may result in a better price but for a sofa that is not likely to fetch much (maybe you get lucky), I personally would not bother.

For self-collection, ask for cash on collection. Do not accept paypal.

I have bought things - I didn't realise that counted

Ta for the advice
