Can I get my postage back on this?

I bought an old camcorder off ebay a few weeks ago. The actual price I paid for it was 99p but the p&p was £9.99

First it took ages to arrive and now its here, it won't work the seller insists it was working when he sent it.

But, since the p&p is much more than the price I paid for the item, can they refund me the 99p and then refuse to refund the £10 I paid for p&p??

It seems that is what they are after doing.

If the postage was stated at £9.99 during the auction then you have to pay it.
They will only refund the 99p. I'm afraid you will have to chalk it up to experience.

Lesson learned - always check the postage and have a think about whether it seems fair - you can check on RM's website for costs of parcel deliveries by weight.

you will have to return it to get a refund but the refund will be the full price you paid which includes the p&P.

A seller isn't obliged to pay the return p&P though and you will have to return it by trackable post.

sorry should have added - if they refuse to give you a full refund open a paypal dispute for item not as described and paypal will find in your favour and a full refund will be issued - once you have returned the item and passed the tracking number onto paypal

Well, he's just apologised and said he was selling it for someone else and he will refund the price I paid for it and the postage... but he also said he doesn't want the camcorder back so basically he's saying if I want to send it back, I'll have to pay for that myself hmm

He must know it's faulty if he doesn't even want it back. What should I do??

just reply and say thank you and accept the full refund

You are lucky then... most sellers will not refund postage and will say so in the auction.
Just keep the item if he is not fussed about the return, maybe you can find somewhere to get it repaired?

Bouncing Turtle - If you ever come across a seller who refuses to refund the postage simply go through a paypal dispute and you will get a full refund (which always includes postage) It doesn't matter what they say on their listing....paypal will soon show them how wrong they are

Paypal will only refund the whole amount including the delivery you paid after you have sent the item back and provided a tracking number (and you have to pay the return postage) he seems to be reasonable offering the refund so I'd take it
