Help Quick as auction ending in 20 minutes

I have just tried to bid on something but it says it won't let me bid as i haven;t linked my paypal account to my ebay account.

What does this mean?

And is it safe?

If the two accounts are linked, does that mean if one is hacked into, the other one is compromised?

Just link it, it's very safe.
Well, mine is OK (touches wood) and has always been linked.

Aaargh I missed it anyway.

I'll see if I can find anything on linking in the help centre as I don't want to do it without knowing what it actually means!
