excessive postage - any advice?

earlier today I won a pair of designer trousers. The price was OK for what it is, but they are charging 10 quid for postage!! I'm pretty sure the listing didn't say this before - maybe it wasn't specified, or I wouldn't have bid. Maybe it's my own silly fault but they must be taking the p**, it wont cost more than 3 quid to post surely!
do I complain or not?

You can leave comment in your feedback r/e excessive postage costs and mark them down if it is excessive.
However when you bid you agree to the terms of the listing therefore you have agreed the postage costs and if you weren't happy with them you shouldn't have bid.

You could email the seller and ask which method of postage they are using and whether they would consider a cheaper option - but - they don't have to and it should have been asked before you bid. Agree - it seems very excessive!! Are their other items the same? If so, you can report to Ebay.

They can't change the postage costs on the listing after they have bids. Therefore, f you go back to the listing page it will say exactly what it showed when you bid on it.

If it said £10 then you are stuck with it - you can mark them down on the stars system but I wouldn't neg them for it as you were warned!

If the listing does not show £10 or it is unspecified then contact them and/or open a dispute.

have checked her other items and yes, they are the same postage!
10 quid as well for a pair of cords.
they have 100% feedback so far for 16 items - maybe when I looked I only checked for that!! argh.

will have to be more careful in future - usually I check. Must have been drinking wine at the time!!
the item is worth a lot more new (I know the designer, would have cost 3 times the amount to buy). but yes, I shouldn't have bid in the first place.

I would charge £3.00 Postage for a pair of cords. £10 is ridiculous and in breach of ebay excessive P&P policy. Definitely mark them down on the star system and consider reporting the other listings - it's ebay fee avoidance.

Is it that unreasonable? I sold a couple dresses on Ebay, guessed the weight, and ended up losing money on postage.

Cords could easily weigh over 2 kilos, which means 2nd class not available, and first class recorded for 2kg is £7.12. I won't send anything non-recorded, but even Standard Parcels is £4.20.

How do you send your stuff baublerock?

Unless it is an item of value I send by 1st or 2nd class and get proof of postage, if they get lost in the post I claim via Royal Mail which covers loss up to approx £36. Even sending a boxed Nintendo DS by special delivery doesn't cost more than £7! You can send a 30kg box by courier for less than £8, so yes I think £10 is unreasonable for postage.

I posted my Phil & Teds Cocoon today which was boxed so was very heavy & even that only came to £8.94 First Class Recorded - no way will the jeans cost £10 to send

well they arrived in very quick time, they were quite heavy but the stamp on them was for around £4. I gave positive feedback as they are lovely, in perfect condition, but marked down on postage (on the star rating, by the looks of it others have done the same)
