Is it bad/wrong to ask someone when do they intend paying?

So bloody sick of ebay. I sold four things on sunday (auctions ended on sunday) and out of them, only one has been paid for. Ok, it was only yesterday but I personally always pay the same day. I've been messed around before where after 2 weeks it becomes apparant that they have no intention of paying for what they've won and you're stuck in a stupid timewasting 'dispute' when all you want is to sell your item and make some money.

I'm more annoyed as crimbo is approaching and I kind of need the money NOW...not in 3 weeks when the dispute is finally over and I can relist and someone buys etc etc etc!

So, of these four things that got sold on Sunday...ONE has been paid for. I got a message from another one saying he'd pay on wednesday and the other two have just not responded at all.

Would it be wrong/bad/rude to email them and ask them nicely when they intend paying (could perhaps disguise it as 'I want to send them out as soon as possible to avoid christmas post).

Have you sent them invoices?? If not then it would be extremely rude IMO to send "when are you paying emails" - especially as the auctions only finished YESTERDAY, not everyone gets online everyday, especially at the weekend, AND most importantly yesterday there were problems on ebay with making payments, so some simply may not have been able to.

thisisyesterday · 01/12/2008 20:45

agree with FAQ.
not everyone is online every day. give them a chance!

have you sent invoices? if not do that now and then give them another 24 hours. THEN ask them to pay

I've sent invoices. I'm more on edge because their feedback score is very low (below 10) and this ALWAYS happens when I get a low feedback bidder, they always mess me around.

lol yes I know FAQ, i thought the same myself as I posted that!

thisisyesterday · 01/12/2008 20:51

but erm, thank you, for pointing it out

Wink
goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 01/12/2008 20:52

but that's what I love about MN in general, you can be battling it out hammer and tong on one thread, and laughing/joking/agreeing strongly on another at the same time

thisisyesterday · 01/12/2008 20:53

absolutely, it's weird isn't it? the internet I mean. wouldn't happen in real life.

although, i suppose you wouldn't be having several concurrent conversations with people in real life either. which is probably why

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 01/12/2008 20:56

true but I have been on forums where disagreements spill over onto other threads

thisisyesterday · 01/12/2008 20:57

ahh well I can't be doing with that sort of thing.
i tell you what I do hate though, when you start a thread and then some other people come along and totally hijack it lol

apologies mrssnape for the hijack

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 01/12/2008 20:58

indeed - sorry MrsSnape

MrsSnape · 01/12/2008 20:59

come on....move along hijackers!

ahh we were just keeping it bumped for you - you know how quickly threads disappear off active convo's in the evenings on here

MrsSnape · 01/12/2008 21:12

Thanks, at least it makes my thread look popular lol

Ebay give buyers 7 days to pay, thats their rules. If you need paid quicker than that, maybe try gumtree or something?

I send an invoice after the buyer has won. on day 4, i send a small reminder, usually saying "please could you let me know how/when you will be paying for your item, as id like to get it posted to you as soon as possible" then on day 6 i remind them that ebay state 7 days to pay, and were they aware that was tomorrow?

Then on day 8 i issue a NPB strike. Only once has it ever got this far though!

matildax · 02/12/2008 11:32

mrs snape.
i think you are being a bit hasty.

i have waited a while for payment before, and realise that some people have money troubles at the moment.

i think the buyer who sent you a "i will pay on wednesday", was being very nice in keeping you informed. i dont think the emote is very appropriate in that case.

the ones who havent yet paid, it is only fair to give them some time.

ebay is not like a shop, people use it to get a bargain, and also because they have little spare cash, many can not pay immediately, but ime most of them all pay in the end so if i was you i would try to be patient for a few more days.

if i have waited a long long time i sometimes do not send them out as quick as normal after they have paid. horses for courses and all that!!!

if you demand payment, you could get their back up as it were, and they may back out of the whole transaction all together, and leave you bad feedback!!!
surely you can wait a few days???

"...and also because they have little spare cash, many can not pay immediately,...."

I'm sorry to disagree with you, matilda, but people know when an auction is ending at the time when they place a bid, and it would be utterly wrong, in my opinion, to place a bid for an item that you will not be able to pay for at the point when the auction ends.

If you did that in an auction room or a shop, you'd not get your item - it's that simple.

If I am selling something in good faith, I expect equal good faith from my buyers, and that includes being able to pay for the item that they are buying!!! That's not an unreasonable expectation!

Flibbertyjibbet · 02/12/2008 11:51

Your items ended on sunday.
I can hardly get near our pc on a weekend. Lots of people have jobs where they do not have access to a pc during the day - and even if they do most employers block access to ebay.
So you will have to wait till mon night at the earliest imo for the ones who didn't pay immediately.

If bidders with low feedback bid on your items you can cancel their bids.

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 02/12/2008 11:53

but sunny - when ebay states that the buyer has 7 days to pay - it's not unreasonable imo for a buyer to buy something in the knowledge that they will have the money ready to pay 3/4 days afterwards.

sunnygirl1412 · 02/12/2008 12:12

That's a fair point, FAQ, but these buyers haven't even had the grace to get in contact and say when they are going to pay. I still don't think that I'd bid for something unless I knew I could afford it there and then, rather than making the seller wait for their money.

matildax · 02/12/2008 12:15

sunnygirl, by all means disagree with me!! there is no need to be sorry!!

however if the seller does not stipulate in their listing when payment must be made by, then i am afraid they, on occasion will have to wait.

i think the more patient you are as a seller, the better the feedback, and the better you feel with regards to the whole transaction in general.

but hey that is only my humble opinion!

sunnygirl1412 · 02/12/2008 12:19

Matilda, I'm sorry to disagree with you again, but if I want to be sorry, I will do!!
xxx

matildax · 02/12/2008 12:25

lol sunnygirl!!!
xx

mrs snape, by the way, i sometimes, am one of those oh so annoying buyers, as on occasion, i have been unable to pay my seller immediately, however i do always keep the seller informed. normally this is all it takes. then everyone knows the score, and everyone is happy.....

at least i think they are!!

wickedwitchofthesoutheast · 03/12/2008 19:03

it drives me mental when sellers ask when I'm going to pay straight away!

unless you have specified anything other than the 7 days ebay state, don't be asking when I intended to pay as my answer will always be -

"within the 7 days specified"

why do you need to know??

sorry, sellers who ask this do my head in lol.
if you want the money the same day, may I suggest a car boot sale or such?
