I need to refund a buyer, should they send the item back first?

It is a wooden toy stove, I thought I had wrapped it properly but the buyer says it arrived damaged and wants a refund. Should I ask them to send it back first? And if so do I refund them for the cost of postage?

I sent an apology for perhaps not wrapping the item very well and said I would refund them if they returned it. They haven't replied. Should I send another message or just wait?

Just wait some buyers don't bother in the end

Some people try it on. Definitely wait for them to return it.

I hope they do return it tbh, it was a lovely stove, even if it has been slightly damaged in the post, and I was really sad it only sold for 99p. I want it back!
