If something is gold-plated and is sold as 10k gold on ebay, that's a good reason for return right?

I mean, the seller has made a mistake right? If it was ten carat gold it wouldn't wear off and have another metal underneath (guessing copper)

10Carat is different to 10Karat.

unfortunatly the K means it is plated and nothing more than costume jewellery.

ooh, the plot thickens. They have emailed through ebay to tell me that it is definitely solid gold and that they don't offer refunds.

It's worn away underneath (where there is clearly another metal) and is stamped inside 10k.

So I've told him I will raise a dispute unless he gives me a refund.

arghh - well now he's shot himself in the foot - to start with obviously you thought that 10k was solid gold - but research has revealed that it's gold plated - fair enough - you made a mistake. But for them to claim that it's solid gold when it's blatantly not is a bit rich......

If it was sold as 10K then he says it's solid (I wouldn't have known BTW) he's contradicted himself and is being misleading, with the email through eBay you have proof of him doing that.

I would have thought Carat and Karat are the same thing - I thought if it was plated thay had to put for example, 10KGP - I make jewellery and use gold and silver plated copper wire and gold coloured copper wire. I'm not allowed to call it gold wire, even if the wire looks gold - I have to call it Gold plated wire (if that's what it is) or gold coloured wire. I think you have been conned by this guy and you are right to open up a dispute. Solid gold will not wear off and leave another colour underneath - so i would definately say it is plated.
