Had some boots listed for sale on ebay which were new in the box. A buyer asked me if I would ship them to Greece if they won and I checked that they were within the 2kg weight limit (they were) so I said I would. Anyway buyer won the auction last night and I have now discovered that the combined dimensions of the box are too big to send as a small packet to Greece - aaahh!!! The cost I had quoted to the buyer was £13.50 (which I thought was bad enough) but the best quote I can find for a parcel to Greece is about £40. I have emailed the buyer and asked if they would accept them without the box as I could then just about get them within the acceptable dimensions. What do I do if they decline though? Is my only option to pay the difference and put it down to experience?

erm that's a toughy...

Did you state they were going to be sent boxed in the description?

If you wrap them well enough then they should get there just as well without the box - hopefully they will accept this.

It all depends on how understanding the buyer is I suppose - as long as you are open and honest I am sure they will be fine.

Hi,
We send footwear to Greece all the time in the boxes and as long is its under 2kg you can send it Airmail or internationally signed for. You should be fine as with Airmail you should not be restricted by dimensions.

How big is the box? I work for the post office and the box would have to be huge not to go airmail small packet

Thanks for your replies. The buyer replied and said she was only really interested in the boots and not the box so I have sent today well wrapped in bubble wrap and a mail bag.
Original box was about 55cm by 35cm by 15cm and Royal Mail web site said that total dimensions could not exceed 90cm for international signed for. Do you think we could have got away with it?? Just so I know not to get as stressed next time!
