Item I posted has been returned....

I sold a baby girls coat from NEXT on the 10th (was on BIN) & the buyer paid on the 12th & I posted on the same day (12th).

This morning it has been returned to me as no-one collected it (I sent it recorded so required a signature).

I've had no contact from the buyer at all.

I'm going to email her shortly to tell her it's been returned to me, what do I do re postage if she wants it re-sent, do I charge her postage again?

(It cost £3.23 to post but I only charged £2.70 so have already lost out on postage as it is).

Charge again, and ask for the proper amount. Difficult - will be difficult to avoid a negative no matter what you do!

I don't understand the lack of contact either

Surely she can't neg me though - I've done what I was meant to do - posted the day I recieved payment, didn't overcharge on postage etc etc, if she didn;t go & collect it or have it redelivered how can she neg me for it????

MrsMagoo i would mail and ask her if she wants it resent but she needs to cover postage costs.
No contact is odd though

I have had this - the buyer claimed that she did not get a card through the door - I fully believed this to be the case - they only do this once and frankly if they dont then your buyer may not know it is waiting. It is a difficult one as you have paid the postage so not your faulty but quite possibly not the buyers either. I offered the choice - send again if she was happy to pay the postage (actually postage only obviously) or a refund minus the postage - she chose the later so I lost fees she lost postage - made us close to even - I didn't get a neg rating.

Surely though the buyer would have emailed me by now to ask where the coat was?

I emailed her the day I posted it to advise it had been posted out to her so she knew to expect it.

I just find it sooooo odd that it's been 13 days sice I posted it & she hasn't been in touch

I only mentioned negative as a 'brace yourself' comment - some buyers seem to have gone mad with the power trip of no reciprocal negs and are now being really severe with comments. She might well be fair and nice and will be so in feedback too. have you contacted her again yet?

Did she know that you were sending recorded delivery? It's a PITA if you're not in at all during the day.

We've had several delivery companies not bother carding us when they've tried to deliver something in the past though, so surreylady could well be right.

Yup - I always state in my listings items will be sent Recorded delivery, also states it next to the cost of postage & I also advise that the item has been sent recorded when I email buyers to tell them their item has been posted.

Yes it's a PITA but I have to cover myself by having online tracking details as to many people are trying to scam sellers these days.

If it's a case that RM didn't leave a card I don't understand why she hasn't been in contact??

I emailed her on the 12th to state it had been posted so that's two week ago - I know if it were me I would have made contact with the seller by now.

i would wait till tomorrow, email her again saying much of what you've alraedy said- summarising it all- but making it clear that this is YOUR LAST ATTEMPT to get her to recieve the item she wanted....and inform her that if she doesn't respond by say Sunday 9pm... that you will refund her in full by paypal and relist the item.

the ball is then in her court....

if you do refund her, unless you have available funds in paypal, you have to first tranfer funds from your bank acc to paypal...that takes up to 7 days...and then paypal email you to advise the funds are available...then you can refund. so warn her refund will take 7 days

Hiya Mum23 - done a few refunds before so know how all that works

But if I do issue a refund it will be minus postage as I don't see why I should have to refund postage too when I've done everything I should.

I'm just finding it sooooooo odd that she hasn't made any contact at all

This happened to me. But only difference is the buyer had ledt feedback saying how nice the item was!! I kept the item and resold it!

If she wants the coat again I would either recharge her for postage at cheapest signed for rate or refund the price she paid for the coat (not any postage) and then relist the coat.

p.s i always send recorded delivery too...state it clearly as you said...so people know they need to be home or prepared to collect from PO

(Hmmmmm...was it for a newborn baby??? Hmmmmm...maybe she went into 'inexpected labour' and is in hospital?!?!

i always like to believe there's a genuine reason for ebay confusions...i hate the thought that people are consciously horrid!!!!

A bit off the subject but signed for doesnt mean trackable all it does is prove it got there not where it is along the way!!

We found this out the har way when sending a cash pyment for ebay goods i posted it signed for it went missing en route -lost out all round ....special delivery is the only trackable way....and i paid £4.15 to post a envelope on special next day delivery.

I would be wondering if something has happened to the buyer.Not turning up to collect a parcel and then not answering emails about something you have paid for? Sounds as if something unexpected has happened.

That is what happened with my birthing pool cancellation. I tried to cancel it by phone, no answer, sent an email. A few days later I found out the lady was in hospital after having her baby.

I honestly don't know - I am worried somethings wrong but not much I can do....

It's just odd - I'll give her another week to reply then take it from there I guess

Chapstickchick when I say trackable I mean trackable in the sense that I can log on & have proof that the item has been recieved & signed for - I had a few cases where people were saying they hadn't recieved the item but I was pretty damn sure they had but had no proof so now I send everything recorded (or via courier) for that reason
