I bought a "new" first stage Mothercare car seat from an ebay seller, it finally arrived today after I contacted the seller to enquire if it had been sent.

The box it came in looked well battered about but was still sealed.

The car seat has what look like food or milk stains on it but worst of all!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The gap in the fabric is there for it to poke through but theres nothing there. So the two shoulder straps have nothing to connect to.

Have you emailed the seller? If I were you, I would immediately open a dispute with Paypal and escalate it - the quicker you do it, the better the chance of getting your cash back.
It is so dishonest to put something as new when it isn't.

I have emailed her but got no response yet.
I'll wait the rest of the afternoon before I start a dispute, give her a chance to respond first.

I wouldn't wait - this is not a mistake on the part of the seller.

Well I think it could be a genuine mistake.

I once bought a cot mobile for 99p plus postage and the thing arrived without the winding mechanism. I thought I'd been done.

But no, I emailed the seller and she apologised and sent the winder. She made a loss on that item, but she had just been a bit dopey with her packing.

Sounds a bit yucky though.. food stains

I've tried to open a dispute but it says I have to wait 10 days. I've also emailed the seller and informed them I'm opening a dispute.

No reply yet though

Flower did you buy itthrough paypal if so open a dispute there you can do that straight away item not as described. I can never understand some people even if she has the crotch strap if its not new its not what you bought!

I requested her contact details and have spoken to her on the phone.

She was just about to email me

She has promised to send a replacement and was very apologetic. She also, oddly I think, told me to just dispose of the first one.

I would want to examine the item if I was the seller.

Also worryingly, she promised to have it sent tomorrow but stated that she was going on holiday tomorrow as well. She said she would leave it with a neighbour for collection but I'm not convinced.

open a dispute....it freezes the money in her paypal acct until you are satisfied

Are they allowed to sell second hand car seats? I thought they were banned - has she just put 'new' in order to be able to sell it IYSWIM?

Her ad says its an ex display model, never been used.

How many ex-display of the same model can she have?

If ex display I suppose someone could have sat a child in it to try it and spilt something on it. The seller might buy lots of stuff like that (ex display, catalog returns and so on) and hardly look at it before selling it. So she could be on the level (but be careful)

As for not wanting it back I don't suppose it's much use to her and it would mean her paying you the courier cost
