what is the ebay etiquette to dealing with an item arriving broken?

i don't use ebay much, have only bought 4 things. i won a small ceramic pot the other day, it did state in the description it had hairline cracks but i didn't really mind as it's a sewing needle pot in the shape of a cotton reel and i really liked it. it's arrived this morning and it's broken, a triangular piece has broken away from the inner pot. it is fixable with superglue, and i'd still like to keep it (it was only cheap), but what do i do about feedback, do i mention it, or should i tell the seller what's happened privately (email)?

If its arrived broken..its the carriers fault unless it wasn't wrapped adequately, I should think.

it was adequately wrapped, but she probably should have wrapped the pot and lid up separately rather than together.

I would email her & just say you've recieved it, it's really lovely but sadly it has been broken in transit so she might want to re-think her packaging in future sales.

Word it politely as it's not really her fault.

If it became broke in the post then it wasn't adequately wrapped.
This is the seller's fault and whilst it is her responsibility to claim it is unlikely she would win a claim due to it being inadequately wrapped.

If you are happy to keep it then it is up to you what communications you have with the seller. Any communication should be done via messages and not on the feedback. Any response to the message should be reflected in the feedback.

thanks for the replys, i will email her and let her know. dh has had a look at it and thinks its easily fixed.
