Paypal Refund

I won an item on eBay, paid for it with Paypal straight away, and soon after received a message from the seller. She said the item was already sold and she would give me a refund. This was 2 days ago and I am still waiting for my refund.

She now says she needs my email address to send the refund, or she will send me a cheque (which I won't accept). I have been refunded before for an item the seller couldn't get for me after the listing had closed, and they didn't need any details other than the Paypal transaction.

Do I really need to give her my email address? I thought there was an option on Paypal just to refund a buyer. I'm thinking that if she sends a payment in the normal way, I will be charged Paypal fees - something else I'm not willing to accept for the seller's mistake.

Does anyone know?

Yes I was thinking that, but you have to wait ten days I believe. It's not even a lot of money, but I'm just a bit pissed off that she isn't honouring the contract - that might be why she doesn't want to refund me the proper way.

Its in her interests to refund you the proper way as she then gets her paypal fees back.....don't give her your e-mail, ask her to do a straight refund or you'll file a dispute.

Scotia, she sounds Ok tbh - the thing is, she probably has already either transferred the money you sent to her bank account or used it to pay for something else, without thinking perhaps? (she shouldn't have used it if she knew the item was already sold but who knows)
Anyway she probably wants to refund you asap to save you waiting, and if she has your email address she can use the send money tab in paypal to do it instantly.
If she uses the refund button on the ptransaction, she'd get her fees back BUT she can't use that button unless there is an actual BALANCE in her paypal a/c that will cover it.
So she's just trying to speed it up for you probably.
No need to worry. Give her your paypal address!

Btw I just did this for a buyer when I realised I'd given away the things they bought, as it took them 3 weeks to pay and I thought they didn't want them. So I refunded through 'send money' as I'd already used the money in the account before I realised the items were no longer available. I lost my fees but mea culpa.

Now I have noticed they sent a blooming e cheque to my old email address anyway which hadn't even cleared, so I may have lost that one...! Shucks.

you can go onto paypal and request the money back - there was a huge thread about this this week, when someone did it fraudulently - but as you are not going t get the goods, you may as well do it.

dno't know the specifics of how you doit, but Paypal cetainly allow you to retrieve payments you have made.

it is for this reason, I will no longer use paypal as amethod of payment when I am selling stuff. but on this occassion it may be quite useful

think you can only retrieve unclaimed payments sagpuss.

Anyhow, she now ays she won't refund me through paypal at all and is sending me a cheque, even though I said I wouldn't accept it.

I don't want her to pay me the way she wants to through paypal because I will have to pay paypal fees that way.

I guess the only thing to do is report her as a non performing seller and put in a claim after the ten days.

I think they don't charge a fee if she marks it as payment for services, rather than goods. Not sure...anyway. Glad you're sorted!
