I've been ripped off by a buyer - ALL EBAY SELLERS NEED TO READ THIS !!

So a buyer paid me on 5th July and I duly sent out the item. We both left feedback on 11th July, both happy.
And then on 15th July payment has been reversed.
He has claimed back his money by doing a 'Paypal Reversal' - the money was withdrawn from my Paypal account - he as the goods and the money back

On his feedback he has done this before

I have written to ebay and they have palmed me off stating they cannot check my Paypal account - and told me to contact Paypal who directed me to there Seller Protection page that has basically told me there is a risk of this happening in every Papypal transaction!!!
There is some protection for the seller if your a business trader but none for just a personal account.
Thankfully my feedback is up to 1200 and this is the first time it's ever happened to me but I sure as hell will not be selling something of value (ever) on Ebay !!

Even though you can only put a positive - surely you can put in your comment the truth about the seller? Or is it only buyers that can write comments?

pgwithnumber3 · 23/07/2008 22:29

Most people don't check the actual feedback page, they just look at the percentage and decide there and then if they want to buy from you.

cornflakegirl · 23/07/2008 22:36

UC - I'm pretty sure that Ebay don't allow you to write negative comments in positive feedback (so they could get the comment removed).

onefootinthegravy · 23/07/2008 22:40

They do allow it - this guy has done this before to another seller and since my transaction he has followed up his feedback warning others he was a scam buyer - we have both reported him to Ebay and yet he still has an account and can still make more purchases at the moment, It's just a joke !

FWIW, their rules say they don't allow it pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/feedback-abuse-withdrawal.html

prettylilpookies · 08/08/2008 00:04

yeah they do allow negative comments in positive feedback i had it a few months back ,the seller was completely mean!!!!

I'm really starting to hate ebay and the fees, i sold like 7 things and ended up with £18 in fees, what is happening???

Paypal i don't even want to get started with them for some reason my account was £38 negative and i don't have a clue why, they took unauthorised money out of a bank account no longer registered on their site, and tried taking lot of payments out of a bank account i had registered on there so money i made would make would go into it, causing me to have £890 in fees in that bank!!!!! For 2 months now ive been struggling to get stuff all because paypal took money out without my permission, i have creditors calling about paypal, ebay suspending me and my bank getting annoyed coz im still not out of being overdrawn i just cant won grrrrrrrrr, i hate paypal!!!! i gopt back on ebay thankfully and u dont get how paypal got my new cell phone number!? as i registered my old one on there, strange!

I called paypal and they said we will investigate it, then get back to you in 3 days, that was last week and the collection department keep calling me grrrrrrr! we wil give u another week they say! im seeing if i can take to court the fees in my bank as i never took that money out its unfair i should pay nearly £900 for nothing! stupid banks and stupid paypal! i had even blocked paypal and my bank still let them take it out! i had to change my bank card again! ( cheques and postal orders are sooo much easier but then royal mail is very slow so ppl get annoyed with that too, man we just cant win lol

Is there no safe way to sell things and receive money nowadays??

paypal are crooks and big joke!!!!

prettylilpookies · 08/08/2008 00:06

p.s one foot in- that feedback is awesome lol, must have been a guy lol

SparklyGothKat · 08/08/2008 00:12

I have £57 of fees coming out and nothing sold!!!! I listed DH's car 3 times, my buggy 3 times, a coat 3 times and some baby bits, and I now have £57 in fees and no extra money because nothing sold!!!!

expatinscotland · 08/08/2008 00:29

I stopped selling on Ebay last year after being ripped off by a buyer and paypal.

It's gone even more tits up and it's a shame for the sellers.

PhyllidaPoisson · 08/08/2008 00:34

We don't use ebay anymore.
They threatened to take us to court for fees for an ebay shop that we neither signed up for, nor ever used.
We have been trying to get someone at ebay and paypal to deal with the issue for over four months.
They illegally took money out of our paypal account, at £9 per month, for seven months before we noticed, and subsequently cleared out and shut down our paypal account.
Paypal and eBay are a bunch of bullying, money-grabbing bastards, and the people who work for them are incapable of comprehending even the most basic aspects of customer service.
Allegedly.

I fervently hope people start fighting back, and refuse to use both facilities.

1dilemma · 08/08/2008 00:44

I am amazed by the scams people come up with, someone on here scammed me ages ago using paypal, I emailed them a complaint wiht all the details plus ofering them details of the small claims court cases others on here had taken and they wrote back to say they weren't interested!!

ninedragons · 08/08/2008 01:31

I think a lot of people are heading for the exits. I read a comment post in Australia that someone had a mate who worked for a small Post Office branch and their takings had dropped by about 1700 quid a month since eBay introduced the whole idiotic no-negative-feedback thing.

saltire · 08/08/2008 09:36

I have got very annoyed with paypal as well. I was away on holiday, and had sent something before I went. However, for some reason it was returend (I ahd to go and collect it from PO, which I couldn't do until i got back)
Anyway, buyer opened up an item not recieved dispute, which i couldn't respond to becasue A) I was away and didn't knwo teh parcel ahd been returned
B) Was away and didn't get any emails

So when I did get back the only options that i could see on my paypal account were Refund the buyer
Refund the buyer by cheque

I emailled her to explain wht had ahppened, the same day I posted the item out paypal decided to refund her, so now she has the money and the goods,a nd as far as I can see there is no way of me getting my money back.
oh and she left me negative feedback.

As did someone in New York who bought something from me, which I sent airmail, and he complianed saying he hadn't go it, this was 3 days after the auction ended

I had a bad experience buying a pushchair which was stated as in very good condition. i emailed her to ask if i could collect to save on postage but she didn't reply till after the auction and stupidly i had bid on it. she then emailed me saying she wanted to sell it for more and would let me collect for an extra £10. it was £18 delivery so i said i would meet her half way and pay £5. the pushchair had puncures in all 3 wheels costing me nearly £20 more to replace tyres as they had been repaired more times than you can imagine.
could i leave neg feedback - no
had to email her 1st which was a waste of time. never again.
although never had a prob with personalised stuff and have bought alot. even had 1 person take 2 lots of money but was refunded within days.

mumfor1standmaybe2ndtime · 09/08/2008 10:24

mkemummy - Why couldn't you leave a neg for pushchair you bought?

shewhoneverdusts · 10/08/2008 17:48

we were selling a sony psp on ebay last week. It was sold at the last minute to an inregistered ebayer, who started sending me emails asking for the psp to be sent to Lagos. I said sorry I only send to UK. I then started getting demands (spoof) from ebay saying I must send the buyer the goods in good faith and she would then send me the money. She has also sent spoof paypal emails stating that she has paid me when she hasn't. I am disgusted that unregistered people can even bid on your lots. It really is open to such abuse, I don't think we will ever use it again.

GentleOtter · 10/08/2008 18:15

I am very wary now after buying a little aran cardigan from a seller who took three payments from me..god knows how he did it.

So avoid anyone called ANDY WHITE selling baby stuff.
Paypal staff were useless when I complained and offered no help at all.

GentleOtter · 10/08/2008 18:26

THIS guy

expatinscotland · 10/08/2008 18:31

How awful, GO!

Dutchoma as on here in the Arts and Crafts section looking for things to knit for people.

She's a fantastic knitter who would be willing to handcraft a cardi for you, probably at a far more reasonable price than this one was.
