safe to buy concert tickets on ebay?

Just wondering if I'd be taking a risk, and how I would know if they were truly genuine?

The concert is for...erhem..(blush) barry manilow which is in december. The prices on ticket websites is extortionate.
Should I also wait till closer to the time?

I always worry about cancellations with something like this. Say, for example, you bought a Bjork ticket for Sheffield City Hall in May. It got cancelled and rebooked for last week. Surprise,surprise, it got cancelled again. All ticket holders can get their money back.

But if you bought it via Ebay for more than the face value, you'll only get back the face value. Any extra will be lost in the ether.

THAT all by itself would put me off buying tickets from Ebay unless they were face value or less.

Have you tried some of the 'friendly' ticket tout sites? Like this one:

This specific one might not be much help, but it might be worth trawling the net before you give up.

i have bought tickets on ebay a few times and never had problems. i would wait until much nearer the time as people start to panic that they might be stick with the tickets and sell them cheaper, also if you pay by paypal you can only claim money back for a limited time after purchase so if you buy now and find out they are dodgy in dec you wont get any help, but if you buy them just before the concert and there are problems you should be able to get your money back.

i've bought tickets recently. no problems and got them next day recorded.

I've bought tickets on ebay and never had any problems - think its just like everything else check out the buyer etc.
