and it was a childs toy, would you say something in the feedback?

It is not washable so has been febrezed to death and still whiffs a bit...plus it's raining buckets so I can't put it outside!

stick it in the garage for a week, if you have one, or outside as soon as the rain stops

caveat emptor, I'm afraid

I wouldn't mention it on the feedback, tbh, but would say something like "prompt delivery" that would ring alarm bels for me if I was looking at the fedback, as you aren't gushing about what a fabulous item it was

spicemonster · 02/07/2008 19:15

I agree with tissy. I don't buy anything for my DS that doesn't say smoke-free home (sorry I realise it's a bit too late for that). Can you surface wash it?

ChirpyGirl · 02/07/2008 19:19

It is a bit petty is't it, am just really pissed off I didn't spot it! doh!
Unfortunately my garage smells of bike parts/oil so not much better! I will air it as soon as the rain stops and so no real problems...delivery wasn't prompt either, was 'seller's standard rate' and was sent 2nd class, quite a bit cheaper than the postage I paid..although I know that is not 100% for the postage it still wound me up as it was wrapped in 2 charity collection bags....

Might just say thanks!

it's revolting isn't it
I think it is fine to say something like "received promptly, smelt strongly of smoke"
I mean that is factual

southeastastra · 02/07/2008 19:32

saying it smelt on the feedback will put future buyers off, ask for a refund

MummyLovesPrams · 02/07/2008 20:17

I would probably just put 'Ok' or 'Recieved today' in the feedback - sets alarm bells ringing for other buyers that way!

lindseyfox · 02/07/2008 21:53

i have had stuff stinking of smoke one was a box of green and black chocs and were a pressie came squashed and stinking of fags i did complain to seller she said postie must have sqaushed them and no-one smoked but may have been 2nd hand bubble wra she uses, as a non-smoker i can smell faint smoke so surely she would have smelt it when packing.

smokey items annoy me and especially if childrens items thats not on.

ChirpyGirl · 02/07/2008 23:12

It was a soft toy and cos of the stuffing I don't really want to machine wash it and wreck it. It reeks of febreze now though!

I just put 'thanks' as she didn't actually say anything wrong, I just wasn't expecting it IYSWIM, usually my feedback is very clear and descriptive so that should be obvious to anyone who checks into it.

Chirpy, I have washed soft toys after they were puked on ( sorry if TMI!} and put them in drier on low heat and then left in the hot press for a day or two and they were fine.

chipmonkey · 03/07/2008 00:22

Sorry, I'm Irish! Hot press = airing cupboard.

I have mentioned this before on other threads: some brands of binliner have a nasty smell that is a lot like tobacco smoke, and this can taint items that were stored in them. This may be the case here (or as it wasn't dvertised as from a smoke-free home, it may not). But worth bearing in mind.
