I am so hacked off with this - just opened something else I bought in the week - reeks off smoke. This is the second time this week something has turned up minging. Worse this time as is a baby doll - yuk at idea of givng this to a child.

Am so fed up with selfish / unprofessional sellers who cannot send a clean item that doesn't stink. I specifically asked if the doll was clean and in good condition - jesus.

I have got SPD and getting to town is a real PITA - hence buying off the internet. Trolling around to the post office returning stuff that shouldn't have been sent out in this condition is RUDDY ANNOYING
and still have to find another doll into the bargain

we are going through a little house on the prarie phase

they fight over who gets to be ma, as she does interesting things like quilting and reducing butternut squash and pa just buggers off to set bear traps really so is clearly dispernsible

dd2 is always jack, unless she is being lowly worm

Fillyjonk · 01/06/2008 20:57

see I think legally you are buggered, I'm afraid, unless you asked

I cannot stand strong smelling washing powder (eeew at persil, persil ebay stuff gives me a headache like no other). but little I can do apart from look for stuff that says washed in ecover

but its a total pita

and you can't take it to the charity shop either or they will mutter about you

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2008 20:59

but it is dirty dirty dirty Filly
you can;t compare cigarette smoke with washing powder

dp has put it in the garage and says in a week it will only smell of damp
I wish I had his faith

oh poor you fran what a PITA
I think those are the ones we use for bf dolls

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2008 21:20

they are nice and big and they have beans in their bum so they feel like a real baby
he hasn't got a big heavy dolly so he would love it

Without knowing anyone involved or taking sides: some brands of black bin liner smell of tobacco smoke and can make anything that was stored in or near them smell of tobacco smoke. So a seller with an inefficient sense of smell might not be actually lying about having a smoke free home.

tissy · 01/06/2008 21:23

I once bought a handbag on Ebay that arrived smelling of smoke

I turned it inside out and hung it in the garage for a couple of weeks and it is now ok

Not that you can easily turn a dolly inside out, but the smell will go eventually

harpsichordcarrier · 01/06/2008 21:23

yes, them's the ones
they do make your arm ache after bit though ime

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2008 21:26

oh how odd madamez

this was definitely the whole doll, the clothes and the packaging, I am pretty sure

tissy I hope you're right as I can't be bothered apparently to send it back

HC ds will have his dolly ring sling so he his arms will cope
ooh I can;t wait

"some brands of black bin liner smell of tobacco smoke and can make anything that was stored in or near them smell of tobacco smoke."

if that's true you've just solved one of my greatest mysteries - why the clothes that have been stored upstairs, in black bin bags, and DEFINITELY not smoke near STUNK of smoke when I took them out to wash them recently!! I'm a smoker and even I could smell it and was trying to figure out how they got smokey

FAQ: it is true, I have seen signs to that effect in launderettes (when they put the service wash in binliners) and have sometimes noticed it myself when pulling a new binliner off the roll.

ravenAK · 01/06/2008 22:08

Oh yes, sort of a tarry faggy smell. The ones the binmen leave reek of cigs if it's a warm day - you go to retrieve them from dustbin & wonder why it stinks like an ashtray. (Rather than just stinking like a bin!)

You could probably put the doll in a pillowcase & wash it. PITA though.

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2008 22:10

do you reckon. raven? sometimes things stuffed with erm, stuffing stuff go so upsettingly LUMPY though after being washed
I don't want a dolly that looks like it has buboes

cheesesarnie · 01/06/2008 22:13

i agree about binbags!took me ages to work out why our sleeping bags stunk!

Fillyjonk · 02/06/2008 18:29

what are these dolls? they sound fabulous!

Hova · 02/06/2008 18:35

I got a refund through the complaints procedure on ebay for a tinylove mobile thing that stank of smoke. They hadn't said smoke free home and my argument was that who on earth would even think that a mobile from a babies bedroom would stink of fags. Ebay obv agreed cos I won the dispute... Might be worth a go?

Fillyjonk · 02/06/2008 20:14

well this is not right

have kist googled peterkin jojo

i am 90% sure that this is the doll my mum got ds when dd1 was born

but no beans

why is that then?

FrannyandZooey · 02/06/2008 20:49

well is your one not squeezy at the bottom? if not it could be Beckie instead
similar face IIRC but no beans
[weary face of person who has become unwilling doll expert through searching for perfect fricking doll]
