Tracking saying arrived, buyer saying not

We were forced to use the eBay simple delivery for a package of trading cards as it was for over £10. The buyer asked if we would send two cards for the same price as one, which we agreed to. They are now saying that the tracking is saying it has been delivered but the buyer says it hasn’t.
He has also asked whether the two cards were sent together, which is making me think this is a scam. We filmed us packing the item with both cards in as I was wary of this.

What can we do in this situation please? This wouldn’t be the first time someone has said something hasn’t arrived which made me suspicious when everything else has, but we sent that 2nd class not tracked so ended up rolling our eyes and giving the refund in good faith. Obviously this one is worth much more and I don’t want to be out £35 refunding when Royal Mail tracked says it’s arrived.

If RM shows it as being delivered, then the buyer needs to take it up with RM.

No, it’s actually the seller’s responsibility to follow up rather than the buyer.

@breakfastdinnerandtea these are the steps Royal Mail recommend in your circumstances:

So when the buyer asked DH (it’s all on his app annoyingly!) the message was that because we’d used simple delivery it was between eBay and the buyer. It says “we’ll work with your buyer directly on any delivery related questions”.
Ive since looked at the tracking, but to see the photo as delivery proof I need to put in their postcode, which I have taken from the video of me packaging the items and it’s saying access denied?

Does Royal Mail not give you a receipt with the postcode on it so you can track it? It’s been a while so apologies if not.

Oh okay, so I can now see the picture (stupidly I put a space in the postcode…). It definitely isn’t our package. The one shown is in a metallic envelope with brown tape and we used a brown envelope with clear tape. I can’t make it out properly but it doesn’t look like our return address either.

So it sounds like the issue is with Royal Mail rather than the buyer.

breakfastdinnerandtea · 23/08/2025 13:51

Yes I agree. It also sounds like a problem for eBay to deal with since it seems that’s part of their simple delivery.
On the link that you posted above it says to give it a day in case it’s a “rare scanning error” so will tell DH to advise him this. Although since it a BH weekend it might mean wait until Tuesday!
Thank you for your help!
