Postage changing for eBay

This is mainly from a seller's perspective but I think it will be bad for buyers too - put up costs.

eBay are bringing in so called "Simple Delivery" for private sellers on the 15th even if you've opted out so far. Note that Evri and Royal mail are both ticked unless you change it.

I don't understand all the details yet but it looks like the costs will go up for letter, large letter and small parcel. Eg. with RM 87p-£1.55 now will be £2.73. and 3.35 online now (3.90 in post office) changes to 4.27 for 1-2kg.

The buyer protection fee already increased the price to buyers and makes offers confusing to the seller. Now more hikes and potential for errors (postage eBay will guess and add to existing listings). This seems like both buyers and private sellers will lose out. Thoughts?

I think it very much depends on what you're selling. I list on eBay as a private seller. I'm currently listing my old items I've collected over the last 40 years and they're still doing OK. I've found that if I put an extra pound on the item price and then offer free postage, people are still buying my stuff and I am not losing out too much. They seem OK about paying the buyer fee (which is a complete scandal in my opinion).
However, like I said, the stuff I am selling is quite collectable, I'm not sure people are going to want to pay extra for stuff that is available from Amazon without those added fees and the extra postage it'll now cost.
It's annoying because a lot of my items weigh under 100g, but because of the thickness of them they can't be sent as a standard letter, they have to go as large - the cost of that is now £2.74 compared to the £1.55 I was paying previously!
Eventually, I think that the Business Sellers are going to lose out as well as the Private Sellers because if the PS are not making enough money, they're not going to have money to spend with the BS. Everybody will lose out and go elsewhere.
I can't see this ending well for eBay!

I've given up on Ebay, they just tried to charge me over £10 for a 2.8kg medium parcel. It would have been just over £5 in the old system.
The new system is pants. The buyer pays twice for protection, once to Ebay and once to the post office; and the seller still loses out if the item is lost in the post.

You just click on simple delivery then get the option to use custom delivery ue your own choice of delivery company and cost etc..see pic..
