Do you start most things at 99p or at at what you really wouldnt let it go for any less for? (did that make sense!)

cos I have put brill expensice stuff on at 99p with low postage and its sold for just that despite lots watchers

am a bit gutted!!

is ebay just rubbish at the min or was I stupid to let things go for so little and should I have put higher starting prices?

I put a brand new £50 coat on and it went for a fiver. I was a slightly gutted.

I have been stung like that a couple of times in the early days. I now start things at the lowest price I'd be happy to see it go for.

I believe there is some evidence that a low starting price doesn't on average affect the selling price, or even that items with a low start price sell for more overall. But that doesn't mean that individual items won't go for 99p if you start them at that, so on the whole I now don't. Because frankly selling stuff at 99p a throw is loads of effort for peanuts.

I also sold a kate moss playsuit and started it at 99p. It went for £35 yet other people were selling them for over £60 and people were buying them. I think people are suspiscious if something seems 'too cheap'

I've always started mine at 99p - especially kids designer clothes and generally find they sell for much more however it is a risk you take. I've been listing loads of stuff over the last week or so(my old clothes) and with hindsight should have started them higher as it is such a lot of effort for peanuts! Get your timing right too - I've bought some fantastic bargains because the listings were finishing on a saturday night for example (when people who have a social life (not me clearly ) are generally out and not sat in front of the computer. I I find ending auctions on Sunday or Monday evenings the best time. Hope this helps xxxxx

Are you making sure the auction ends at a good time? Eg 9pm on a sunday evening when lots of people should be around to bid, oh and putting it on for a while to get lots of interest, 7 days is good, doesn't always guarante success but I find it helps

I never start at 99p as I have always found that amount irritating-I start at £1. It is a gamble as you have to be prepared to let it go at that price. I have always been lucky and have got a high price. I find that the lower price gets the watchers and people are happy to bid because it is so low and then it creeps up. I have 100% feedback and I don't sell a lot so I think that people feel safe, for example I have comments like 'pristine condition'. I rarely bid on anything with a high starting price.I leave them on for 7 days and I always aim to finish at a weekend or in the evening.
