EBay payments now released after delivery - query

I understand that EBay are now only releasing payment to sellers after delivery of the item, when the tracking details show it has arrived.
I have always sent things tracked, and so far have had no problems. My concern is that now sellers have to release their goods, possibly of high value, and send them out, having not received any money for them. Can buyers cancel/is there a risk?
It seemed much safer for sellers before.
Also - I have had times when an item has arrived, but the tracking system did not say so - it was not updated, and never has been. Any feedback welcome.

I buy Royal Mail postage though ebay, and check the tracking on the RM website. Once it shows the item as delivered I save that page - I'm not sure how long they stay active but its probably long enough to resolve any issues on ebay. If a buyer falsely claimed the item as not delivered, I'd contact Customer Services and ask them to check the link, and if it was a valuable item I'd consider using the small claims court.

I knew this new system would be a nightmare and already I've hit a problem.

Ive sent out item by Tracked48 and I know it's arrived safely as the buyer has given positive feedback but it's still showing as not delivered so my funds are still pending.

I spoke to eBay and was basically told I had to suck it up as there was nothing they could do as it's their new terms of use.

They asked me to approach RM which I did and of course I was told that they could do nothing either.

I sell a lot and have done for years and this happens fairly regularly with RM that an item shows as not delivered but it has been, so this situation was a completely foreseeable and obvious flaw in their new system.

So basically I now have to wait 2 weeks to be paid because RM has made a mistake.

It's infuriating.

I have sold on ebay for years. I post a lot of items 2nd class large letter through ebay. They have a QR code so should be marked as delivered but half never are. I have sold something lately and they said they are holding the funds until the 13th March. I might have to start sending tracked but that will mean charging more postage and now the buyer has to pay the extra buyer protection price like vinted will make things harder to sell. An item I sold today they had to pay £2.92 protection on top for the item.

I did think there would be a catch to "selling for free" and there certainly is, for buyers and for sellers it seems.

I've never tried selling on Vinted but I'm seriously considering it now, however if it's set up like eBay then there doesn't seem much point.

Tracked labels on Ebay are cheaper than at the post office, its about £3.30 for a small parcel under 2kg and £5.50 for the next size up. I've been using them for a couple of years. I no longer sell cheap items, I put stuff in bundles instead.

I'm not happy with the buyer protection, I already used tracking which comes with insurance. The buyer is paying twice and if the item is lost in the post, they are the only one that gets refunded. I lose out.

I have found the same problem with Royal Mail. Sometimes their tracking never gets updated.

I recently posted out an item that arrived mid week on signed for delivery but the tracking on the RM site is not updated. Luckily the buyer has left positive feedback so I will contact Ebay customer services and ask for the money to be released.

What happens if tracking does not get updated and the buyer claims the item has not arrived? I might stop uploading tracking details until I see that the item has been delivered. I don't want any dodgy buyers seeing the fact tracking has not been updated.

I always used to send things with 2nd class RM and they even came and picked it up.

Does this mean I can no longer do this or can I still use RM through eBay.

I thought you were meant to wait for payment before sending stuff out

Not now, it has to have been delivered and then you have to wait a couple of days or so. Rubbish system.

I suppose you can see that they have paid though on your email
