Ebay Descriptions

Is it only my imagination or have these all gone to shit recently? Half of them now seem like they are written by an over excited work experience child that knows nothing about the item.

All I need to know is a brief summary of the condition. I already know what the product is!

I think some people are using AI to generate the descriptions.

Here's an example I just created with chatgtp. I asked..
"Create an description for ebay to sell an airfryer"
and this is what it came up with,

"Brand New Air Fryer – Fast, Healthy, and Convenient Cooking!

Equipped with easy-to-use digital controls, adjustable temperature settings, and a timer for precise cooking, this air fryer makes mealtime effortless.

  • Energy-efficient and faster than traditional ovens.
Whether you're preparing crispy fries, juicy chicken, or even desserts, this air fryer is a must-have. Grab it now and enjoy healthy, delicious meals with ease!" Let me know if you'd like to adjust or highlight specific features!

Agree, it’s AI.

I was selling some Fatface jeans once and tried it to see what it would say- it was so gushy 😂 ‘look the part in these designer (?!) jeans…’
Also, as it isn’t always accurate it’s supposed to be the sellers responsibility to check before listing which a lot aren’t doing.

It is annoying!

beAsensible1 · 27/01/2025 09:55

There is almost always no description of the quality, how new/old it is.

just copy from the website and that’s it . So annoying

verityveritas · 27/01/2025 10:18

Its AI. I just don't bother bidding or buying anything which gives me waffle, I'm surprised eBay hasn't levitated off the face of the Earth, given how many items for sale are described using 'elevate'!

Jabbabong · 27/01/2025 16:44

It seems the problem is not limited to descriptions. I have been searching for something today and buyers have been listing items with the wrong descriptions and what likes incorrect AI descriptions have been used.

People already have difficulty engaging their brains. This so called AI will make it worse.

A further reason why I only buy odds and sods off ebay shops these days like say the corner joining pieces for a plastic frame that B and Q don't sell.

Otherwise I peruse FB marketplace.

sixtyandfabulousofcourse · 02/02/2025 15:45

it is those generated descriptions. I thought i would try it but half of what they put was not right and it was such an airy fairy rubbish. almost as bad as people hardly putting anything at all

Spurber · 02/02/2025 15:49

When I list something in the app it asks me if I want to use ai to autogenerate a description and then it comes out with a load of waffle
