Item posted with Royal Mail 48 hour tracked service hasn't arrived

I'm the seller. The buyer just opened an item not received request. Perfectly reasonable as I dispatched the item on 27 December!
Tracking number shows it is still at the Post Office where I dropped it off.
Who is responsible for chasing it / claiming compensation - buyer or seller?
Thank you.

You are because you have the contract with RM. I've had this once before, nightmare.

NetZeroZealot · 08/01/2025 18:53

Thanks. Did it take a long time to resolve? It's the 2nd item today I've had an issue with and I was on hold for over an hour trying to sort out the first one. maybe I should just claim compensation straight away?
I am not a frequent seller (although I have been doing it for 20 years) and won't be using eBay again.

Start an on line claim now.

I've had this TWICE recently with RM.

On both occasions I filed for compensation and was sent back packs of 2nd class stamps to the value of the postage only with the excuse that "I couldn't prove the contents of the parcel matched the description". I'd provided photographic evidence.

One was a birthday gift for a relative, the other a christmas gift for the exact same relative, same address everything. It's made me think someone dodgy is working at that office.

ETA for selling now I only use lockers!

EBay isn’t your problem. Royal Mail is. They’re so shocking at the moment that I’ve moved to Evri who are FAR more reliable than RM the last 6 months - and cheaper! The wonders never cease.

Mine took a ridiculously long time to 'resolve' in that the package eventually resurfaced but it had been time sensitive documents to sign and the ship had long since sailed on that. The worst bit was that RM have previously been so totally reliable especially with tracked that the elderly aunt I was sending to wouldn't believe it was RM fault and assumed it was my fault!

Thanks. I’ve refunded the buyer and started a compensation claim. They’ve asked for evidence from my bank account but I can’t provide that because my last eBay payout was a large lump sum not just this one transaction. I understand they need to
ptot against fraud but this seems unnecessarily complicated.
