Dragonbutter · 27/03/2008 00:12

oh no, not the reborn dolls.
there was a tv programme on channel 4 recently about these called MY FAKE BABY and lots of threads on here.
was weird.

madamez · 27/03/2008 00:14

BTW ara, at 15 weeks she wants something she can safely chew and be sick over anyway, so why not get her ant&dec a cuddly bunny?

ara · 27/03/2008 00:14

they are a kind of mix between sad and terrifying. can't decide if the less or more 'skillful' ones are fraking me out more!

OP posts:
ara · 27/03/2008 00:15

I watched a program on this a few months back. The women in it treated them like real babies. that was the really sad part of it. Clearly, they had real issues... they needed some really serious councelling, and not a single person ever told them.

I'd never heard of it, until that program. It wa on Channel 4 I think... One of them, had one made to replicate her grandson who had moved to australia.. it was SO strange.
The other main one who was featured, took it out in a massive sliver cross pram. She took it to harrods to buy a new outfit for the new one that they were getting.

The husband dared to call them dolls, and she went mad, saying I've told you before to call them babies, they are not dolls! I was compelled to watch the whole thing.
I felt sick in the end...... not as sick as I do about that chimp! I couldnt work that out until I noticed the feet... what on earth do people do when they are take out in public, and you look in and coo, and realise its not moving!

I'd be worried i'd pull it out of the pram and commence CPR or something!!!

ara · 27/03/2008 00:19

oh god that's so sad!

there must be a big market for them , people are paying wads of cash for them!

Sort of interesting really: yes it's wierd but what harm is it doing if people want to treat their dollies as babies? It's probably slightly less dodgy than people who dress their dogs up in tuxedos and carry them around in handbags (a doll is not in a position to mind, but a dog might get pissed off sooner or later).

Argh!!! I wish there was an emoticon for running off, hiding under the bed and whimpering!

I actually saw a tv prog a while ago about these kind of dolls. One woman took hers around in a massive Silver Cross pram (she had clean wheels for the house!) and bought it desinger clothes! She went all the way over to America to collect one, after spending about £500 on an outfit for it, and couldn't bond with it when she discovered a crack in it's head...
