FFS, why doesnt ebay have a listing search option for smoking/non-smoking homes...

I have just bought a coat. Its a heavy wool coat with quilting inside. it arrived today and it stinks of smoke. fair enough, it was listed as "used" but it also said that it was hardly worn (doesnt lok like its been worn much tbf)but it certainly didnt say that it was from a smoking home. I now have to have it drycleaned (it really, really smells) arrrrrrgggghh

I doubt people would declare it tbh.

Try hanging the coat outside. My dad used to hang his outside after social events at his bowling club and the smell did come out.

i could. im just a bit hacked off. this isnt the first time this has happened, even ds pushed it away coz it "'mells"

It's crap though. I bought jeans and didn't even think about the smoking thing. They reeked, but at least I could put them in the machine.

Yes, but they might not have smoked at home - just at the opium dens that they frequent.

Surely, you'd dry clean any second hand clothes that you'd bought before wearing yourself?

right have put it in the wash on a handwash cycle. have also emailed seller thanking for the coat but mentioning that while im happy with the condition it smelt of smoke, so may be an idea to wash before posting of mention in listing in future.

not bought a secondhand coat before. would wash any secondhand clothes. but it was stated in listing that it had been worn twice. maybe im just gulliable

I always wash the clothes we buy off ebay before even really looking at them. The postman might as well come in and put them straight in the washing machine!

Do you really think that people will list 'from a smoking home' on items?

I'm a smoker but dont store anything in the same room where i do my puffing. I would never put from a smoking home in my listings, professional suicide as most people would think everything would reek! oh and I never allow the hamster to wee on my stock either

I bought a high chair insert that was supposed to be new...it was filthy in the creases at the edges and on the elastic underneath and stunk(stank)? of smoke...the seller was really rude when I e mailed my utter displeasure. I couldn't get rid of the stink even after washing it thoroughly with neat flash 4 times and spraying with Febreeze! Some people are just thoughtless.

Now that I think should have been mentioned. I would definitely mention in my listing if was selling something which I absolutely knew had been exposed to smoke on a regular basis. When it come to clothes have yet to have any comeback re smoky smells, I did have one return but the item had belonged to a mate and whilst i didnt notice it obviously had been worn by a smoker. Note to self always ask non smoker to check unknown entities
