I recently sold a nice, excellent quality, probably worn three times max Boden dress. I set the auction price quite low and only one person bid so they basically got a bargain less than £10 including postage sent off immediately had a message from the buyer saying thank you for the speedy dispatch and they were delighted. Today, I’ve got a message from them, saying they washed and ironed the dress and have discovered a hole in it, with a photo of a tiny hole, I have no recollection of this – I guess I could’ve missed it, but unlikely. Then a second message saying oh dear, the sleeve has fallen off. Accompanied by pix of garment with loose sellers ( it was not loose) looking quite pilled, which it wasn’t when I sent it. I’m very dubious about this – there is no way this sleeve was about to fall off, I don’t remember this hole. The whole thing smacks to me of someone who either messed it up in the wash and/or or has purposely damaged it, hoping for a freebie. I’m very tempted to either ignore the message and see if she is just trying her luck, or reply saying you spent £10 what did you expect. What I don’t want to do is say she can return it because then I will get back a damaged dress that was in perfectly good condition before plus be out of pocket. I don’t have any rights here, do I?
