I hate eBay!!!!

One bid on an item that cost me £55.

It was brand new in packaging.

Sold for £10 on 11th Dec. With fees I made about £7.00.

23rd Dec the seller said they hadn't received it.

I apologised. The tracking number was already on eBay and I said I would find my receipt.

24th I emailed to say I was still looking for the receipt.

I refunded 26th Dec as I couldn't find the receipt.

27th Dec I messaged again and said I had refunded.

1st Jan the item was marked as delivered.

I emailed the buyer to ask if she had received it. I doubt she will reply.

She did say if the item ever turned up she would pay. She didn't need to say that as I'd already started the refund process.

I've lost my money and the item now.

I only sell as it's the only way I can earn. It's all our used stuff but some new bits I can't return.

Been with them 20 years. 3000 odd score with 100% feedback. I hate eBay!!

If you had the receipt, why not return it to the shop?

Set a minimum price on eBay rather than accept low bids?

I think Op means her postage receipt, the proof of postage.

I hate eBay too.

Yes I didn't have the item receipt.

I had listed this for months and kept reducing the price slowly.

I would use Yodel or similar - built in tracking.

The shop I use emails you your receipt so you don't have to faff with paper.

If I do use a shop with paper receipts, I take a photo of the receipt immediately on my phone

If the tracking number was on eBay I'm also not sure why you had to find a receipt.

There was already proof you posted it (?)

Was it a RM reference number that you couldn't track online through your courier's tracking?

Also, a lot of people sell on vinted to avoid eBay fees.

I don't ... But that's because I just don't seem to be able to sell decently on vinted, others seem to do ok though.

I think it's proof I paid postage online, printed the label and produced a tracking number but not they I had actually taken it to the post office?

I didn't get an item (for 6 months), the seller called me all sorts (really nasty stuff) for getting a refund from Paypal. The item eventually arrived (6 months later) obviously having been trapped in a sorting office (a bit ripped up etc). When it arrived I paid the seller again and they were more than surprised that I paid, buyers are not all bad.

So it was RM postage bought online, is that right?

And you were dependant on on a certificate of posting or similar to prove you posted it?

If that's the case, I know it doesn't change this situation, but I'd take a photo of anything you get immediately. But a service like Yodel with emailed receipts is the best/easiest option.

I'm still wondering if you had a tracking number (if it was a tracked service) why it couldn't be tracked and proven to be in transit with the carrier.

I also wouldn't be inclined to refund myself, I'd leave it to eBay ... The time it would take for them to go through the motions with the case and eventually close it and refund, may well allow for late delivery.

Anyway if the buyer received it and didn't pay you back, they're a shitty person. I've been refunded and then received an item, and I contacted the seller and paid. It wasn't even an individual, it was a company.

Also re. reducing the price; unless you're in a rush for the money, I honestly find most things sell sooner or later. There are so so many things on there for buyers to wade through and it takes time for your item and buyer to find each other, as it were Things have sold at full price that I've had on their for yonks. If you're trying to get money fast I know that's not useful though.

(Another advantage of using Yodel or Evri is that you print the labels at the shop, it's included in the price; and don't have to faff around printing - and spending money on ink etc. printing at home).

This is just an example. I think the same must have happened with this item. I can't remember now.

I can only track it so far. So I couldn't tell where it had ended up. In this instance the parcel has definitely been received as I've had positive feedback for it.

I refunded as I've had a couple of cases where cases were closed without me responding. This meant I had to pay more fees. Luckily time had passed and they are no longer on my record.

I was thinking it's about time the post office emailed receipts.

Lots of people (myself included) are using Facebook Marketplace these days. Worth a try?

You've made over 3000 transactions and this is the only one which has gone wrong? I'd say that's pretty good really.

I’ve stopped using it and I have about 1500 stars. The final nail was the Chanel 19 I bought from a private supplier BNIB that was clearly fake, the wrong colour for a start, let alone smell. It was a real battle to get my money back and loads of denial about the fakeness for days. PayPal paid up eventually but I had to provide pictures of the bottle anomalies and the colour of the fragrance.

what a farce it was.

To be honest this is why I put all my old stuff down the charity.

I would be too upset with stuff like this happening, after all the effort.

What I will say as a buyer though, the descriptions and pictures that sellers leave are woeful. No measurements, scant description, bad pictures. When you email them asking details of the item they dont reply

Then wonder why they get no bids or just the one low bid.

The tracking you have put a photo up of is eBay tracking not the Royal Mail tracking. This is never usually detailed enough.

So somewhere there would have been the tracking number for Royal Mail if you bought it online…and it’s that you needed to track on the Royal Mail website where you would have seen it was in transit and likely caught up in the busy Christmas post.

Dont refund anyone until they have opened an item not received case on eBay and even then eBay may have refunded them as a goodwill gesture.
