Bought an item, it was faulty (part missing), emailed seller who straightaway agreed to refund on item being returned.

I mailed back to ask would the refund include my return postage. Oh no, says the seller, buyer always pays for return postage. Er, hang on, say I, that doesn't apply to faulty items...

Oh yes, says seller, it is paypal rules that buyer always pays for the item to be returned.

Now, postage will only be about £3.00 or so, but why the HELL should I lose money because they sold me crap?

I am going to pull their sddress from ebay and go round and shit in their garden.

Try and chill out, but am not sure the seller is right.
WHy not post on the ebay talk boards as there zillions of experienced users on there who can confirm details.
It may be that you have to pay return postge but that the seller has to refund you? Have you looked on paypal at the dispute pages?

talkingmongoose · 11/03/2008 20:38

but...but.... It's my bloody money and their sodding fault!

It's absolutely ridiculous!

ive recently stoppd using ebay as to be honest, in my experience they are a load of c**p when it comes to refunds.

the seller is right that the buyer should pay postage to return an item even if it is faulty.not right in my eyes but it is not in the rules that the seller should pay for it. a decent seller will to save face but most dont.

dont know how true it is but ive heard that you cant leave negative feedback anymore and that the policy had changed.not sure if that is right though.

i bought new kickers shoes and when they arrived they were scuffed and worn and ended up having to accept a reduced refund and not even the return postage! paypal said that if i dont accept what offer is given, they cannot guarantee that i will get the full amount back. on that note, i havent used ebay since.

I'm a seller and I'd never expect someone to pay postage to send something back if it's faulty/damaged. I figure it's my responsibility as a seller to ensure the stuff that goes out is right.

Paypal don't make this easy, though, as they won't allow you to refund the full amount + additional expenses for postage. I always have to send an extra amount, making a calculation to cover the person's Paypal fees.

On occasion, I've offered stamps/cheque for the extra, to save the bother.

It's always a bit of a gamble when you buy on Ebay cos you're dealing with individuals and we're all different, but I like to think most sellers are pretty straight. (mind you, I am a bit naieve at times, so what do I know?!(~)
