Vinted diddled

Sparks1234 · 28/10/2023 15:20

Hi, wanting some advice please. I listed an item on Vinted as ‘very good condition’. Sold it, but when the buyer received it I had a notification that ‘it was significantly not as described’. The buyer said there was a hole under the arm and showed a pic, that wasn’t there when I sent it but it’s hard to argue. It was a knitted jumper and all they would have had to do was put a finger to slightly separate the knit and it would look like a hole. Being naive, and not realising I wouldn’t have to pay return postage if I requested they return, I refunded rather than argue. Anyway long story short… have checked the buyers profile today and they’ve relisted my item listed as in ‘very good condition’ no mention of hole and for double the price! They say in the post, ‘bought on Vinted but didn’t like colour so relisting’. It wasn’t a big amount but feel so diddled 😩, they obviously just didn’t like it, so they made it look damaged so they’d get a refund. Obviously no morals. Is there anything I can do about this?? Can’t see an obvious way of reporting something like this. Thanks in advance.

Contact Vinted. There is a help section with chat available. That is cheeky fuckery if the highest order. Screenshot everything. When you've done that, contact the seller and tell her you are taking steps to recover your item.

muckandnettles · 28/10/2023 16:40

That's so annoying - I'd be furious at that. I'm like you and just give a refund rather than argue, and usually I've not had people take advantage but that's awful.

PrudeyTwoShoes · 28/10/2023 16:40

I'd contact vinted but, speaking from past experience, I wouldn't hold out any hope of them being helpful.

DurhamDurham · 28/10/2023 16:42

I'd buy it back and then open a dispute for a refund.

Luckysmum · 28/10/2023 16:48

I had a buyer on vinted try something similar. They bought an kids puffer jacket from me then they sent me photos of the stuffing coming out of one of the sleeves. I knew that it was perfect when I sent it and told them to send it back to me. They refused to send it back and then have me a 5 star review as they 'loved the item' 🤷‍♀️
I now take photos of all sleeves, edges, zips etc... Before I send anything.
Vinted are not great at investigating anything unfortunately.

jlpth · 28/10/2023 17:17

I would chalk it up to experience. I don't sell stuff online anymore for reasons like this. People are scum unfortunately.

Sparks1234 · 28/10/2023 21:23

Thanks everyone for your responses. It is incredibly frustrating, and it’s sad that people stoop so low! I think I will contact Vinted, just so I’ve tried, but will likely get me nowhere. May also send the person a message to say, carefully, what I think of their morals, so they know they’ve been seen doing it.

From now on will request returns too, lesson learnt!

I love the buy it back suggestion and then open a case. But I'm a petty cow at times 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sparks1234 · 28/10/2023 22:08

Yes but as they are the ‘seller’ this time round, if I bought it back and opened a case I would probably have to pay postage to return it (which they would likely request) so further out of pocket and still lost the jumper 😏

Yeah it's rubbish this loophole- I did the same for a mid value item.

I kind of knew they were trying it on - it was a pair of lovely boots (old but expensive) that they complained were peeling in the inside. I just refunded. But wished I had sent a return label and asked them to send it back. I remember thinking sardonically "enjoy your new boots🤬"

Another time was a dress that "smell funny" and when they sent picture it wasn't of the dress at all just a countertop. They never sent the item so I got paid.

Now I will always ask for the item back if someone ever asks for a refund and if they quibble I will send an evri label.

Some people are dicks op and just be glad you are not one of them. How much was it?

Sparks1234 · 29/10/2023 07:47

Had a reply from Vinted, as suspected they were no help…Their support is ‘limited’ it said, and now the buyer has the item it’s up to them (buyer) what they do 😡 They don’t seem to care that they have people deceitfully obtaining refunds, then reselling. Thanks Vinted! 🙄

Wasn’t a big amount, less than £10. Although annoying it wasn’t the amount I was so bothered about, it’s the ‘buyers’ behaviour. As I said though, I have learnt my lesson and like you will always request returns in future.

@Sparks1234, I suspected they would be useless at dealing with the CF. I have had the opposite problem as you and bought a 'new without tags' top on vinted. It arrived stained so I messaged the seller who then said it was only 'worn a handful of times'... I messaged vinted as the buyer refused to cover the returns cost and I didn't think it fair that would need to on a top that only cost a little more - it was more about principle than cost. Despite their 'buyer protection' nonsense, I didn't feel very protected!!! There was no consequence for the seller who was clearly misleading buyers just to get a sale. You might be able to tell that I'm still miffed about it now! 🤬

Vinted sounds awful - I sometimes wonder about using it, but then I read threads like this!

THisbackwithavengeance · 29/10/2023 08:47

I hope Vinted sort it for you OP but I wouldn't hold your breathe.

If not, you should have their address in your emails. I wouldn't contact them now but revenge is a dish best served cold....

PlipPlopChoo · 01/11/2023 15:08

Do you have to list condition on Vinted? I sometimes sell on Ebay and everything I sell is put as "See the photos for item condition".

I've had no issues with it at all. Buying or selling.

GeneCity · 02/11/2023 07:16

@TheFormidableMrsC, that's like me on eBay - I've bought and sold a lot, and haven't really had any issues at all. I do look on Vinted, but only if there's something I really want that I can't find somewhere else. I've never actually bought anything though. I think they're offering me free shipping at the moment (or maybe I just don't understand how it works).

Fantasea · 03/11/2023 11:30

OP, I sell a few things on eBay and am shocked at how low some people will stoop. I think what is also so frustrating in these situations with dishonest buyers is how powerless you are as a seller. I've found there is another advantage in offering returns - often with a buyer pulling a fast one, they will more often than not decide to keep it after all, once they realise they're not getting a refund!
