Vinted: Fake sellers

No idea what’s in it for them, but it looks like a bot or AI is making hundreds of fake accounts and loading them onto Vinted each day.

I spotted that the designer items on each account all had different photo backgrounds, so it’s scraped them from somewhere, and were way too cheap.

I’ve checked a few times and there are literally too many to report. All new accounts, no feedback and multiple items for sale.

Vinted should probably do something about it.

Have you reported that to Vinted?

Oh they know.

Certain categories have been un browsable for weeks with it. Every listing is fake with a stolen photo and as fast as you can report more pop up. So yes, Vinted absolutely do know.

They also know the trigger categories, Nike Jordan’s, Belstaff clothing etc, yet fail to monitor listings in those categories to avoid the problems. That said, many of them are far too good to be true with £500 coats listed at £50.

I listed something ‘designer’ once as a seller with several hundred feedback, and had to jump through hoops to prove my item was real. Meanwhile, a 0 feedback account with a username that consists of random letters and numbers can list something without question.
the whole thing stinks really.

Thanks for the reply. I’m not bothering to look anymore, as they don’t seem inclined to make the very simple fixes.
Back to ebay for now.

Received an email saying they now offer a designer Item Verification service…for a fee.
coincidence?

I think you'd be daft to buy designer from there and expect it to be real tbh. I certainly wouldn't and I do buy a fair bit from there, though people clearly do as the Facebook groups are always full of folk who thought they were getting genuine Pandora for a fiver etc
If I'm buying second hand designer I use a platform such as Vestiaire who have been offering a verification service themselves for years.

One of the things I have an interest in is F1, I've reported so many fake F1 shirts, flags etc, even showed them in idiot terms why they were fake. Even the most awful fake Chinese copy shirt that actually read 'Red Bull Racinc' and had the geographical coordinates of a field somewhere in Essex rather than the Red Bull Factory that is on the original shirt remained on Vinted until it sold. You have to laugh really.

Even 'designers' like Nike and Adidas are fake. I'm suspicious of anything listed as new with 0 feedback tbh

Does anyone else find it coincidental that Vinted has rolled out a verification (authentication) process for extra cost, the same time the site was flooded with fake sellers.
Was this some elaborate beta testing?
