Buyer put in an offer. I accepted. They paid. They then said could I post it so it could get to them in 2 days time. Thing is it's a cheap item and I deliberately put the postage method I chose on there. I didn't hear back from them and so I got it in the system thia afternoon so they'll get it as quickly as possible. But the expected delivery date is now after their 2 day deadline.

Am I in the shit?

You can't guarantee the delivery date with anything even if you send special delivery, arrive by 9am etc.

Did you promise that it would arrive in 2 days time? In your position, I would just have told them that I will post first class - assuming they've already covered that cost, and then leave it at that.

irk, that's a pain. I actually think this is a rare case of ebay will side with you, though, as long as you posted by dispatch time stated.

It's possible that the buyer might return the item if it didn't arrive when they needed it. So hassle for you.

They should have asked you before buying it but failing that, you should have charged them extra for faster delivery (or at least offered the option) rather than just posting anyway knowing it would never make it there in time.

No I didn't promise that. I reiterated the postage that would be used and didn't hear back so thought I'd better just post it so it had a chance.

Yes. I think from now on I'll offer two postage- the standard and if they want it quicker they can cover the cost.

There is a chance it will make it there on time so I'm hoping it does

You really don't need to fall over yourself when buyers start demanding - they don't tend to be good buyers!
I always offer a cheap slow postage option and a fast one that the buyer has to pay for. If they want it delivered by a certain date I tell them I can't guarantee delivery, and if they've already paid I cancel the sale and report them for demanding something that wasn't offered in the listing.

Oh I didn't know I could do that. I'll remember for next time.

People who offer both say "no one" selects the dearer option. Update us in 2 years about whether anyone every chose your pricier option.

Ah. I'll give it a go just in case this situation comes up again.

It doesn't cost you anything to add that option, and some buyers do choose it.
