do some research on items to see how well they sell and for how much.
find a supplier that sells the items you are interested in and work out what your profit would be and if it would be worthwhile.

hi I have an ebay shop
it depends on what you want to sell.
ebay do a market research subscription so you can see what are the top searches on ebay etc (good to know) this costs about £6.00/ month and you can opt out at any time,
i made quite a few expensive mistakes ot start off with - I put everything on auction and quite a lot of stuff did not sell, but you still have to pay fees !!( ended up losing money at first!) then I put 2/3 items on auction listings + the rest on ebay shop inventory items A LOT CHEAPER!!!! I would start off selling some suff you have in your house first - this way you can make your mistakes and learn your lessons without loosing money on stock. Its a good way to make £200 ish a month but you need to work at it and not get frustrated to begin with and give up - if you stick at it you benefit (hope this helps)

I've got an ebay shop with around 400 items in it. At £6 per month it's a cheap way of having multiple sizes listed. I sell bras and with all of the size / cup permutations it would cost the earth to have every size listed on a BIN
I tend to have 30 to 50 BIN and auctions listed at any time and then big links to my shop to get people in and browsing.

Re what to sell - I would go with something that interests you. I've always had a thing for nice bras and knickers. I started off selling unworn lingerie that I had bought in the sales but gradually found wholesalers etc and have built up from there.

A small point - if you are buying to resell (anything even 2nd habd stuff from carboots) you are classed as a trader. As such you need to register as self employed with the taxman and keep accounts / fill in a tax return.
