Pick up instead of postage ?

If p and p is quoted at what stage would you ask about collection instead. Item is being sold relatively locally.

Ask seller question that if you won would you be able tgo collect.

I often get emails asking this. I usually just email back to say that's fine as long as they are able to collect in person within X days of the auction ending. I will only take cash on collection for pickup stuff, as well.

ok so I won but suspect the seller got rather less than hoped . Normally they take Paypal or cheque. For collection do you pay in advance or cash on collection ?

you canjust e mail seller and say to save on fees you will pay on collection

I rarely accept collections in person. Too much faffing around to organise a time when I will definitely be at home!

Definately ask before bidding, someone just won a bid on an item I was selling and THEN emailed me saying "I will collect this item as I am local, please send me a recalculated invoice"

I was really pissed off, thought it was really rude not to check first. Insisted they pay through paypal before collection just to be difficult

they can go home and file for item not received and get a refund.

I personally wouldn't bother with the hassle of paypal if I was picking something up cos I don't see the point.

a buyer will receive a refund from paypal if the seller can not provide proof of delivery ie a tracking number.

you can tell paypal they have collected it, sure, but they don't care, they need proof. therefore buyer will receive a refund whether you like it or not

It makes a difference because cash is cash, and won't vanish. Whereas money in your paypal account can and will vanish if the buyer claims to have not received the item.

I believe there have been several well-documented ebay scams involving just exactly this combination of paypal and pickup in person, though I'm guessing mainly for higher-value items.

FWIW I generally do pickup only for larger items that I can't be faffed with posting, and have never had a problem. You need to specify a time limit for (a) contacting you and (b) when the item must be collected by.

Ah didn't now that - Oh well it was only £1.99. I have his phone number and he did offer to pay cash so don't anticipate a problem.

Surely people get a reciept of collection when they pick up anyway?

of course you don't have to go through with this if he insists on collection - as you didn't offer that as an option.

apart from the risk of losing your money should he paypal/collect, it would be daft to lose the the fees if he pays with paypal

buyer leaves feedback first to let seller know item received and happy with it.
seller can then leave feedback as the transaction is complete.
remember - feedback is optional so don't ask for it

I think if you came away feeling that the transaction had proceeded smothly on both sides, I would just go ahead and leave feedback. If, in the highly unlikely event that she then leaves neg feedback, you can reply to it factually. Most people on ebay just want a quiet life and positive feedback.

don't worry about the updating of the payment received and dispatched thing - I usually update those in batches (once in a blue moon )
