Why do people bid and then take ages to pay when they win?

Just wondering what reasons people might have to bid on an item and then not pay for days when they win? I've seen a lot of this on the run up to Christmas. It's always bids made in the last hour or so so it's not like they can have bid earlier in the week and forgotten it? I've even had one or two where they've bid, I've had to chase them then ended up having to do something through ebay to say they haven't paid.

Is there any tips on how to stop this?

They could be using bid bots or whatever they are called.
They could be waiting for their sales to be paid to have funds in their PayPal account.

They might have got caught up in the moment and reacted to the time ticking down and impulsively put a bid on without thinking it through as to weather they actually want it or forgot they put a bid on a similar item a few days ago which they are waiting for. Then once they've won't it they regret it and are just procrastinating over paying for something that they don't really need.

I don't think there's a way to avoid it happening especially not writing in caps lock no time wasters please!

Thanks. I guess also its nearly pay day maybe and they might be buying lots of things in run up to Christmas.

It's annoying having to resist things that got a lot of interest- I wish there was a way of offering the previous bidder 1st refusal.

They can't be honest enough to follow the rules they agreed to when signing up.

Which is to pay within 48 hours.
