parcel and postal strikes

I sold an item which I dispatched on the 29th Second Class. Obviously there have been strike days and a weekend, but the buyer is now chasing because the item hasn't arrived. Ebay's own estimate is for this to arrive between the 10th and 13th.

I so rarely sell on there because it's always a flipping nightmare.

Anyway, basically I'm not sure what the process is here. Does the buyer have to wait for that Ebay date to pass before raising it as undelivered or can they do it sooner.
Obviously with the way the RM is at the moment it could be held up. (My DH is receiving First Class parcels a week after they were posted!)

Ebay are actually cutting sellers some slack at the moment because they know that there are significant delays in the mail. The buyer should wait until after the date given by eBay but you should note that Royal Mail don't consider things lost until 14 working days have elapsed, so you won't be able to put in a claim until after that time, and even then you will need proof of posting. I have made 2 claims today but don't expect to get much back.

I am in exactly the same situation. Seems that the item I sold has not moved!
The seller isn't chasing me and is patient. However, I am worried that I am forced to refund and then she receives it.

I can't believe they are striking now.
It's so shit.

I had a package arrive yesterday after eight days. I email all my buyers to tell them to allow longer for delivery due to the strikes (I'm a business seller sending 80-100 packages a day so you can imagine how much time I'm wasting having to do this every day). It seems to have held off the worst of "where's my stuff" messages though. I've only had two asking for replacements or being snippy. Most people have been understanding, so hopefully your buyer is aware. I did think someone had been living under a rock though when they asked me last night if they paid extra postage would it arrive for Friday 🤦.

I’m still waiting for an eBay purchase to arrive that was sent via 24hr tracked on 17 November. According to the Royal Mail app they’ve got it but the tracking hasn’t been updated for 14 days now. I feel really sorry for retailers and anyone trying to sell on line at the moment.

LadyAstor · 07/12/2022 10:12

Yes, its due to Royal Mail's industrial action. Its taking about 10 business days for delivery at the moment.

The company I work for has switched to UPS next day service due to this.

nauticant · 09/12/2022 15:56

I've pulled my listings. I tend to sell higher value items. My recent 3:
Royal Mail, tracking goes nowhere, no record of delivery, I hope it got there and the buyer is honest. Shifted from RM because of all the strikes.
Evri, the tracking information is that it was delivered at a random Argos rather than the buyer's address, chased up with Evri and got a blurred photo suggesting the tracking information is wrong. However, the buyer would have a good chance of claiming their money back from me.
Evri, in limbo at the nearby delivery depot, no sign of moving, can't get any information from Evri.

Used Packlink for the second item I’ve sold on eBay.
Consigned to Yodel in mid November and after very time consuming chasing and opening a case with eBay, Packlink admit the parcel is lost.
So, claimed for compensation to be told my package contained prohibited items; no compensation.Looked at both Packlink and Yodel prohibited items.
The contents were not on the Yodel list but just about 95% of items you’re likely to find on eBay were on the Packlink list.
Certainly explains why Packlink are “losing” so many eBay parcels.

nauticant · 18/12/2022 14:13

Of my two Evri parcels, the in limbo one vanished from the delivery depot. That will make a very nice Christmas present for someone. I'm still wondering whether there'll be a claim against me for the random Argos delivery. Evri told me that they did deliver it to the correct address but despite my request, the delivery location still gives the wrong address.

TheHauntedPencilCase · 18/12/2022 14:17

It's all a shambles at the moment. I have moaned on other posts about Evri but my amazon order also disappeared this week so something very odd is going on. I think the buyer has to wait until after the expected date on eBay but I think even that is optimistic.

Thelnebriati · 18/12/2022 15:03

I think ebay need to change their terms now, so that buyers can't claim for items lost or damaged unless they paid for an insured/tracked service.

simbobs · 18/12/2022 16:01

Unfortunately, ebay expects the seller to stump up for tracked postage even if the item only costs £5.00. I have people whose items are tracked, trying to claim refunds so that they can go out and buy another gift, despite the fact that tracking shows the package en route and will eventually arrive.

Thelnebriati · 18/12/2022 16:04

We've listed all our items tracked and insured, and charge for the postage to cover it. Sales have crashed, but we just can't afford to refund everyone who bought an item during a postal strike, so we don't think we'll be any worse off.

ForeverbyJudyBlume · 19/12/2022 07:41

I’m really sorry this is happening so many people. I sent a parcel on 29th November normal second class as Buyer hadn’t paid tracked and it still hasn’t been delivered. She has politely chased me twice, what is the deadline before she can put in a claim? Of course it does rely on her being honest and it’s a worry as it was quite an expensive item. I should’ve sent it tracked but hindsight is a wonderful thing that I had a lot of on my mind with my mum at the operation and didn’t think about the postal strikes. Can I claim via Royal Mail?

Ocrumbs · 19/12/2022 07:57

I feel so bad about this.

I ordered something that cost about £30 off ebay. It hasn't turned up. Tracking shows it was accepted at the post office. Its gone past the date ebay said it should arrive which seemed to factor in the strikes. How long do I have to claim for its non arrival. I don't really want to do it now as that's a bit poor if it turns up tomorrow!

gogohmm · 19/12/2022 08:28

Even without strikes second class post for parcels can take more than a week, I had a large letter take 10 days earlier this year posted with a large letter 2nd class stamp. At Christmas it takes longer always, and then add strikes. If posted before the 5th they should arrive in time for Christmas they are saying
