Traffic on eBay?

I’ve not sold anything on eBay for over a year. I posted an unusual item over a week ago and have had zero viewings. Ok, a bit disappointing but it’s unusual, I get the buyer pool is probably small. I then put a onesie on to find the word onesie is banned as it’s a trademark for Gerber (?) (but not for Next/Primark/M&S?). I use alternative language and in 3 days have no viewings and when I search, the item doesn’t show up. I put another non-controversial item, a kids top from a good brand, no viewings again? Header was brand, size, item type and in the right category.

have I just been unlucky?

… should have added, I can see the promoted item option at 7% which I did not take, could this be the reason I have no views?

I often buy kids clothes on Ebay, single items of clothing don't sell very well unless they are Boden or a trendy brand. What sells is bundles of kids clothes, a big variety of clothes together, you need to use the word bundle and the age range of the clothes in the listing.

Not sure how sales are on eBay generally, but I feel like it’s dying a little. More people seem to be using vinted etc now, due to extortionate fees.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 21/11/2022 14:52

I’m selling a lot of clothing on eBay atm and getting a lot of views and sales. I never pay for promotion though. Maybe it’s just the brands I’m selling are popular atm (not designer though). I’ve got other brands maybe less popular that I’ll list eventually so I’ll find out if I just got lucky or not I guess!

Soreztee · 21/11/2022 14:54

The kids top is Boden. I have tried bundles before and have never sold one. Conversely, when I have looked for a decent bundle at a reasonable price, I’ve never
found one! I was wondering if traffic for clothes has moved to Vinted. I’m a member of some Boden Facebook pages but I’m not sure how the payment works. I might have to revisit this option. I have lots of new or
lightly worn Boden boys.

I agree the fees are high but from my perspective I’m just selling to downsize and I’m pricing to sell. If I’d put it all on Vinted and waited (without the time imperative of an auction) I don’t think I’d have sold half as much, so it’s worth paying the extra for me right now I think. My DDs both use Vinted and Depop but they want a certain price and don’t have the same motivation as me to get rid of a lot of stuff quickly.

amylou8 · 21/11/2022 15:04

The view counter has been broken for months, it works on some items, not on others. Have you tried Vinted? My clothes seem to be going much better on there.

Soreztee · 21/11/2022 15:10

@amylou8 view counter broken? That would explain it! 😆 I did take a look at Vinted but I’ve read some terrible feedback. i was thinking that I might just need to bite the bullet and get in to it. Either that or go to the Facebook group selling sites. A different sort of risk there. The clothes I have are either bnwt or lightly worn by 1 child. I can’t let them go for 99p!

All the kids stuff is Boden btw.

Try adding the fabric and colour in the title.
If its an unusual item list it several times, or as buy now instead of auction.

Soreztee · 24/11/2022 07:29

@Thelnebriati good tips. The items are already BIN postage included - I wondered if this was part of the problem? The onesie (that can’t be called a onesie) is in effect £4.

i will try your pointers on the colour in the title. I’m intrigued on the list it twice tip - I think I’ve seen other people do this. It would be just my luck it sells twice then 😆 is it a bit risky/against the rules?

Can't you just edit your post if it's live?

chickidychick · 24/11/2022 07:35

I'd put an auction on it too.

And make sure you're timing it right so it ends at the weekend.

Soreztee · 24/11/2022 13:27

@Beachhutnut I think @Thelnebriati is suggesting multiple listings to get more coverage eg in different categories not to avoid editing a live listing which is indeed possible.

OP posts:
Thelnebriati · 24/11/2022 13:33

No I dont mean create multiple listings for one item! Just be patient, let the auction run and relist it. If its an unusual item you might not get someone searching for it straight away.

andymary · 24/11/2022 14:20

If you would like to share the Item Number, I can take a look at the listing and look it over and see if there's any improvements to keywords/SEO/marketing that could be done (only if you want a helping hand though, no pressure).

AyeCarrumba · 29/01/2023 19:36

Vinted is so much easier. And no fees. I'm totally over Ebay.

I’ve found this too. I’ve given up selling on eBay for anything except very specific collectors items which people would specifically go to eBay for.

they are extortionate and their policies massively favour dishonest buyers. I can’t wait till vinted allow you to list anything you like, so I can avoid ebay all together.

inappropriateraspberry · 08/03/2023 09:21

I've given up selling on eBay. Extortionate fees and too much hassle with postage etc. Vinted is a lot easier and quicker. I think that's where most people buy and sell now. Boden would do well there.
