Super confused- how does eBay see delivered if no tracking?

Hi all
I sold an item and sent a couple of weeks ago. Second class proof of postage. It was addressed to an Argos. Im just selling some old clothes etc so no eBay champion …still largely learning the ropes. I always keep receipts somewhere safe in case something gets lost or disputed. Anyway, buyer contacted me to say not received. For whatever reason, I can’t bloody find the receipt. It’s not in either of the two places I put them (despite having all others for the last few months…typical). Buyer opened up dispute. I messaged to say that I am hoping to find receipt on weds (I have a day off and I plan to attack the house from top to bottom and will tidy and search…it won’t have been thrown out). EBay just sent a message to say case closed as they can see buyer has received the item.

Am I being a moron here but how can eBay see the buyer received the item if I can’t find the proof of postage with the reference number on? Is it because it went to an Argos store so they have a way of knowing it was received? Very confused as obviously if the buyer hasn’t got the item and they truly have been lost in the post then I would refund her as wouldn’t want her to be out of pocket and it’s my fault I can’t find my receipt?

thanks in advance

Did you buy the postage through eBay?

If you purchased the postage label from eBay they'll have put tracking on to the sales record automatically. The click and collect would also have a record of delivery.

Sorry should have added……because of you did then the ‘tracking’ isn’t actually tracked all the way through the process but it is updated once delivery is made.

Thank you for replies. No I wrote the address out by hand and went to post office with other items. I remember writing and sending it as I haven’t had one go to an Argos for collection so that was something I ‘noted to self’ as an option I wasn’t aware of.

so will eBay be able to see it arrived at Argos and that is why they closed dispute so quickly in my favour? Is there a way they would have made a mistake in saying they can see the buyer received the item? It seemed to be a genuine person I sold the item too with good feedback so I’m surprised if they have tried to pull a fast one so to speak. Thanks x

AFAIK ebay can see if its arrived at an Argos, because Argos have their own system in place.

I think Argos scan the parcels in when they arrive, they will have a system to see who has collected their parcel. I think the person 100% does have the parcel.

Buyer will have closed case with the reason they have now received the item
