How do ebay reclaim refund money for disputed items?

Hi, I bought a coat on ebay and it wasn't described. I raised a dispute, the seller told me no returns so ebay thankfully refunded.

As far as I'm aware when I buy something the money gets deposited straight to the sellers bank account after a day or so.

How do ebay reclaim refund money from difficult sellers?

I think temporarily at least they hold onto any other money made.
I just had a buyer claim he didn't receive a Nintendo switch. Until eBay checked the Royal Mail tracking which proved he'd signed for it they held on to some subsequent earnings and released them when they closed the case in my favour

They take it back from your bank account by Direct Debit. It happened to me as the seller. I was shocked to see this happen when buyer opened a dispute and requested to return item and get a refund. I knew this had happened when payment went via Paypal in the good old days!!! It did not worry me as my paypal account was only for ebay dealings but money being taken from my current account makes me very uncomfortable I had assumed I would have to authorise the refund not just have it taken as DD

When you sell you have to verify your bank account as a payment method for refunds and disputes, as well as for deposits. I much prefer the old PayPal system.
