Strange situation with seller on Ebay.

Hi, I just wanted to hear what people think about this situation and If I'm justified in being slightly annoyed by this!
So basically, I won an item and paid for it. Eight days passed and it hadn't arrived nor had it been marked as sent. So I messaged the seller saying can we cancel if it has not yet been posted but got no reply. Next, I opened an Item Not Received case. I requested to cancel the order and get a refund as I'm going away so would no longer be in to receive it which I explained in the message box when I opened the case. (I ordered it well in advance of going away and had it been sent in the stated time frame it would have been fine)

Anyway the next day the seller messaged me saying oh sorry I can't cancel it, it has been returned to me but I've just resent it today. I replied saying Royal Mail wouldn't have returned to sender that quickly surely and I was a bit confused as it was never marked as dispatched and I'd had no communication but OK I'll wait to see if it arrives. This was on Tuesday. Then today the item has been marked as posted and she sent me a message saying sorry I've been busy but we've sent another one first class so you'll get that soon. Despite me saying that I no longer want the item, and can we just do a refund?! I feel like I am being messed about and lied to. Does this sound odd to you? She's basically claiming to have sent it on three different occasions now and yet I've received nothing and she's sent no proof of posting/tracking etc. Not sure why she is reluctant to just cancel? Sorry for the long post!

Well, they'd probably like to be paid for the item, and maybe they mucked up posting a bit. Have you been refunded by eBay? If not, would you be happy enough to have paid for the item and to receive it, albeit late?

Yep, I think she messed up/forgot to post the item originally. But what I'm annoyed about is rather than just say that, she's now claiming to have posted it three times already which just makes no sense. I know I can eventually just get the refund from ebay if the item doesn't turn up but it is annoying to have to drag it out (have to wait quite a while longer before ebay will step in and refund.) Normally I would be more than happy to wait a bit longer for an item but it's just because I'm going to be away that I opened the INR and said can we just cancel the order. My annoyance is her reluctance to just do a refund and instead keeps saying she has sent it on 3 different occasions. Sorry if this makes no sense lol.

No, it does make sense since you won't be there to receive the parcel. I thought eBay just took charge and refunded after a certain length of time actually.

I thought that If you've raised an issue with eBay, they will refund, regardless of the seller now sending.

Duckerbizzle · 10/09/2022 10:58

Yeah basically if you open a case then ebay advise that you try and resolve the issue with the seller first and, and after a certain amount of time if it isn't sorted than you can escalate and ebay will do the refund. But does take quite a long time. A good seller would just apologise and say shall I send it out albeit a little late or would you like to cancel? But this one has sent garbled messages about it being returned to her once and she's sent it out two more times since! Just really odd.

Yeah I know that I can get a refund via ebay if necessary after a certain date, my thread was really just to have a little moan about how the seller is being very odd about the whole situation!
