Don't think you can do Buy it Now when you are new to ebaying actually !

Postage wise - pop each thing into the bag/envelope you will post them in - stick them on your kitchen scales the go to the Royal Mail website and you'll be able to work out how musch postage will be. Don't forget to inclued price of envelope/jiffy bag etc.

Listing today is good - people at home will be browsing !

happynappies · 19/01/2008 15:01

Personally I don't offer buy it now, because often people will make you an offer for 'buy it now' and you can consider it when you have a better idea of what things might sell for if that makes sense. I use
this from Royal Mail to work out postage costs (weigh the items first in my kitchen scales, then add a little bit more to cover cost of packing materials and petrol for taking the things to the post office) - alternatively you could look at what similar sized/weighted items are going for on e-bay and use that as a guide. hth

Also be painstakingly honest about the condition of your stuff (any marks etc). Someones idea of excellent condition is not anothers.

With the shoes photo the soles, or one shoe with sole visible (as long as they are in good nick) as it will show how much use they have had.

I find that listing at 8-9pm on a Sunday nght is good (7 ady listing) as many peolpe are not on the town and have got hte kids in bed by then.

Oposts · 19/01/2008 15:14

right
oyu mean to END then?

OP posts:
SlightlyMadShrek · 19/01/2008 15:17

Yes, but if you do a 7 day auction it will always end at the same time of the week as you started it...

twelveyeargap · 19/01/2008 15:23

chuckles at "it's me cod" The highly personal typing style was a giveaway.

comfytoast · 19/01/2008 15:31

If you have a white bath put the items in and then take the photo it shows up much better .

BettySpaghetti · 19/01/2008 15:48

I thought it was compulsory to photograph on laminate flooring

twelveyeargap · 19/01/2008 15:53

only if your bath is avocado

look at completed listings for items similar to yours and get an idea of how much they are likely to sell for.
Start your auction at the least you are prepared to sell for 'unless' its an item that 'always' gets multiple bids, in which case you can start at 99p and let it fly.

Don't put silly things on the listing like the infamous "I am not responsible for items that get lost or damaged in the post"

use you title for good keywords - not words such as lovely, gorgeous L@@K WOW etc.

best time to have auctions ending is sunday evening so a 7 day from sun to sun or a 10 day from thur to sun

snice · 19/01/2008 17:07

You don't need to make the title a grammatical sentance-instead use the title to get in as many words as possible that people might be searching for

snice · 19/01/2008 17:09

Don't forget to post a link to your ebay listing on MN so we can all have a shigger at your cast offs

snice · 19/01/2008 17:18

or a snigger even

blueshoes · 19/01/2008 18:45

Good clear photos are key.

Choose the gallery option so your listing turns up in search results with a photo. If there is a particular feature that is appealing, eg elaborate trim or detail, include a photo of that.

I always post stuff signed for otherwise the buyer can claim non delivery and get their money back from paypal

Ooh I did some selling before christmas for the first time, it was so exciting at the end. I made £40 odd pounds I was sitting on the edge of my seat and when it was all over I was knackered.

OliviaMumsnet · 19/01/2008 19:22

They say to end sales on a Sunday evening as more people are home then and so will be bidding madly.

You have to describe item in full "QVC" stylee gush mode Try channelling the Boden catalogue and say something like:

"These fabulous shoes are perfect with jeans but will be hardworking in the office and take you from day to night effortlessly.
Lovely buckle detail - uppers are 100% leather
blah de blah

Give approximate dimensions on clothes
From Neckline to hem = x inches

Basically give them as much info as possible in the initial copy (which can be as LONG as you like) as it's a PITA answering questions.

Learn the abbreviations - BNWT etc abbreviations

Be honest about any damage/scuffs etc so you get good
feedback.

Oh and special cod advice - use spell check and type PROPERLY!

Good luck. I do LOVE a bit of ebay selling.
Made £200 before Christmas - I'm a pro.

0SlightlyMadShrek · 19/01/2008 19:31

Start as low as you will possible accept.

99p or 4.99 are the ones I usually go for as that is the top price in teh cheapest (for you) 2 bands.

People or more likely to pop it onto their watched list at 99p and then get carried away than they are to be interested if it goes straight in at £20.

Oh and type PROPERLY, you need people to be able to find it with a sensible search string!!!

One more thing, use the dropdowns in the item specifics as people will filter on them (especially the size one) - but stil yuse your text space to duplicate all the info as people can then find your item using hte filters OR a text search.
