I bought something by sniping the other day (is that bad?) however it was a muliple auction 2 things original bidder bid £1.50 and wanted one of them. Does anyone have any idea why my snipe then went to my maximum (also for one item) which was also sniped by the original bidder at the same price also for one item. Surely mine should have gone to £1.50 or at most £1.70?WOuld be grateful if anyone can explain...

The rules for proxy bidding are different when it is a multiple auction. I can't remember exactly how it works, but if you search the help section of ebay there is an explanation there. It is pretty confusing though!
