refunds and sending items back

dh has bought a pc card from ebay which does not work and the seller has asked if we'll send it back and then they will refund the money we paid and the postage back to them.
(I was a little suprised at offering to pay postage back to them.)

But dh is worried that we'll send it back and then they will just refuse a refund.
He paid through paypal so are we covered at all by the paypal protection £500 thing as I have never had to use that before??

Does anyone have any ideas. We were going to send it recorded delivery to make sure it got there.

I think as long as you have proof that it has been delivered back to the seller then you should be protected by Paypal.

If they have good feedback I wouldn't worry. I bought a bag from an ebay seller and the handle broke the first time I used it - it was quite a while after I'd bought it. I emailed her and she asked me to post it back and she'd give me a refund. After I'd posted it back I thought "I haven't got a leg to stand on now if she doesn't give a refund" - I'd already left feedback when I bought the bag. But she did give me a refund (postage too). If your seller is running a business (ie., not just selling bits and bobs) then it's in his interest to maintain good customer relations - you're more likely to go back to him. I think recorded delivery is a good idea (though he may only refund standard P&P).

Oh and keep copies of all emails between you.

thanks for all your replies. Yes he does have a business so hopefully he'll want to keep his feedback as perfect as it already is.

you must return by trackable post - then if a problem arises you just give the tracking number to paypal

sarahSILVERbells · 11/12/2007 15:50

as six says, send by recorded signed for so that you have a tracking number should the return be disputed.
